Well, so much for the idea I had of pairing he & Akio with Susuki ...

Poor guy. That tag team never really had much of a shot, did it? But then hey, he drew WWE paycheques for nearly a year, so I guess that's not all bad.

Eh. I never thought the guy was ready for the main-roster. However, if they release Akio, then I will be quite pissed!

Laaaame. The tag division is lacking as it is; the least they could've done was stuck he and Akio in Suzuki's corner and work them as an-off team. Oh well-maybe now they'll get around to pushing Akio as a cruiser.

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

No big loss. He was decent when I saw him working UPW shows, but I was never interested in him on Smackdown...

Amen, brother OSH ... If I hadn't grown so fond of the Tajiri/Rhyno team, I'd say put him with Tajiri.

This is really, really stupid considering the shortage WWE has of legitimate tag teams and cruiserweights. No wonder both divisions are in the toilet since they keep firing all their potential wrestlers or don't give them any significant TV time. What a joke. And Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly still work for WWE.

This is why I almost get upset when I hear guys like Akio (Jimmy Yang in WCW), Ultimo Dragon, or Sakoda sign with WWE since they will do absolutely nothing and get used poorly. Did anything ever come out of that stupid Yakuza stable idea?

Speaking of Ultimo, did anyone else read something a few weeks back about him coming back to WWE without the mask and using his real name ... I don't remember the site that I read it so I can't say the source ... Just curious.

Source was Meltzer. Apparently (by his own choice), he's going to return simply as Asai.

Can someone please tell me the point of Ultimo Dragon returning to the WWE after what happened to him there in 2003-04?

This is where WCW excelled at compared to the WWF/E. You mostly only hear negative comments about WCW, but they handled their cruiserweights very nicely. No, they almost never got the main event spot or anything, but I really liked what they showed. The WWF/E Light-heavyweight/cruiserweight division has never had the same feel. I never really saw Sakoda exceeding in the WWE. He never really drew any interest from the Smackdown crowd...same with Akio so far.

More money in his pocket? He had a good contract with WWE, if I recall correctly. My problem with the complaints about Ultimo is that he's nowhere as good as he was in WCW. And I don't buy any of those "But he's still better than everyone else" arguments.

I didn't see enough of Sakoda to think that he's a great talent, but the WWE doesn't have nearly enough wrestlers to release people that have talent or potential. And yes, it is quite a joke that Bob Holly is still employed despite being a no talent AND complaining about his push. Wow. And is that a recent rumor that Ultimo is gonna come back to WWE?

Ultimo is still under contract, but is currently on leave, due to return this fall as Yoshohiro Asai. I imagine he's probably a bit busy with the Toryumon/Dragon's Gate situation.

I was surprised Sakoda got called up in the first place. Nice guy, but I never saw him as WWE material.

Well, toward the end, WCW *did* give the cruisers their own tag title belts and some pretty prominent feuds over them, and I'm sure given time (which they obviously ran out of) a number of the cruisers (Sugar Shane, Rey, etc.) would have at least flirted with main event status/high end matches eventually.

it says so right here in the wcw handbook!

Sakoda's release will have no effect on the cruiserweight division whatsoever, not least because he isn't a cruiserweight.

He's not billed as one, but he's at the right weight for it.

Matt Hardy isn't a cruiserweight either, and yet he held the title longer than anyone else since the inception of the WWE Cruiserweight title.

Even if Sakoda isn't a cruiserweight, he and Akio could've become a good tag team if WWE tried to build them up at all. Or at least they would've had another good tag team seeing as to how the tag team divisions on both RAW and Smackdown pretty much suck as of late. And I mentioned the tag team division thing in my above post.

Well geez, that's like being upset if Johnny the Bull got released because he and Nunzio could have been a good tag team. The reason the tag teams would've been good are not Sakoda or Johnny the Bull. Sakoda, despite being a Japanese man, stinks. Wait, that gives me a great idea: Nunzio teaming with Akio, revealed to be the third Noble cousin.

That being said, your original idea of putting them with Ken Zo Suzuki was a lay-up if there ever was one. Maybe he can get Akio and Funaki as his ... bodyguards ... instead. (Or maybe he can get fired too.)

I agree. I understood the match and I like the stipulation but Sting pins Angle to win it? That's surprising. Didn't he put his career on the line just to get the World Title back?
