New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who was suspended for the entire 2012 season due to Bountygate, is suing commissioner Roger Goodell for defamation, saying he made false public statements against Vilma that have tarnished his reputation and may make it hard for him to earn a living playing professional football again, or doing anything after he leaves the NFL.
Good luck with that. I imagine Vilma will have a hard time convincing anyone that Goodell was out of line.

I believe that Tarkenton requested a trade from Minnesota primarily due to differences with the head coach. He was only in the league a few years at that time, so it really had nothing to do with misleading them or quasi-retiring.
