If the WWE keeps putting on ladder matches people won't consider them anything special anymore.

I hope Lesnar runs in, leading to RVD beating Lesnar for the SummerSlam title shot next week.

Is this seriously going to happen? Champion vs Champion right after a PPV? I can see this as only one of two things. One, a spot machine where someone runs in every 5 seconds. Or, two, a lame attempt to give 1 guy 2 belts, which is of course, completely unnecesary, unless one of those belts is a tag belt.

As much as I love the spot machines that these two men are, this is probably going to be a complete waste plot-wise.

Yeah, and what's up with having a ladder match between two guys who have no heat with each other? Look for WWE to scramble to get us to believe these two guys don't like each other, but no one will buy it.

Anyway, should be a great match, but ladder matches tend to be. I agree, WWE shouldn't bust these out too often, or they'll lose their luster. Imagine if a Hell in a Cell match happened every couple of weeks on RAW. After awhile, when someone announced “I'm gonna take you on... but it will be in my kind of a match. HELL IN A CELL!”, no one would really care. Right now, it's still kind of a big deal.

God, are they trying to kill RVD and Jeff Hardy?? I love ladder matches, especially between those two, but come on.... they're already both gonna be in wheelchairs in the next 10 years.

There was this episode of Drew Carrey where he was the star of this internet webcam show. He was living in this house that was furnished only with merchandise from the department store chain he works at. At first, the show bombed, because it was just Drew. Then they added this incredibly attractive hispanic woman to pose as Drew's wife. Ratings went through the roof and Drew started doing the webcam show full time, 24 hours a day. It was a huge success and the products were selling like crazy.

And then Drew's girlfriend got really jealous because he was spending a lot of time with the hispanic woman and he was really starting to enjoy it.

So, the girlfriend bursts in during the broadcast and things start going to hell. The hispanic woman leaves in a fit of frustration. Shortly after, management suddenly runs in (ha! no pun intended) and, in an effort to save their ratings, they put up a picture of Lt. Uhura from Star Trek for the geeks watching to look at while they sort out the trouble off camera.

My point? WWE = webcam show. Lt. Uhura photo = RVD/Hardy Ladder match.

You know, you almost make some kind of point there...

Are you saying the WWE needs Lt. Uhura in a Tables, Ladders, Chairs match with RVD and Jeff Hardy while Drew Carey dips out of the Royal Rumble before Kane mauls him?

Makes sense...

Why... we'll make MILLIONS!

Assuming you don't have Uhura kiss either of her opponents, because God knows we can't have that.

A year ago RVD and Jeff had a ladder match at the Invasion ppv. It was pretty good and it was RVD's first appearance on WWE ppv. Possibly they will use that as backstory for tonights match. The guys don't have to hate each other to have a match anyway. Perhaps they both just want another belt?

It wasn't a ladder match. It was a normal match. They DID have a ladder Match at last SummerSlam, though.

Besides... this is an Intercontinental Title match, not a Eurocontinental Title match. So what's RVD's motivation?

Yeah. Are you suggesting that champions shouldn't defend their belts unless there something in it for them?

This should be an entertaining match, and that's what I look for on Mondays, to be entertained.

I don't understand the "why are they having this match" argument. I mean, I'd venture to guess that even the most casual fan knows that somebody books these matches, not the wrestlers themselves. They're having the match because they were told to have the match. It's Raw, it's not like they need a backstory. If this was a PPV match with no buildup, I'd see the argument, but it's just Raw, it's a TV show, it's an RVD-Jeff ladder match. It's supposed to entertain us, it most likely will, people need to stop reading so much into this stuff.

Also, what would doing RVD-Rock at SummerSlam accomplish? That's no more special than Lesnar-Rock. They've been billing Lesnar for the SummerSlam shot for over a month now and you want them to just change the stipulation? If it was Benoit-Rock and they billed it for a month and then changed it this board would probably blow up. Everyone cries about needing continuity, but I guess you only want that continuity if it's suited directly to you. I'm looking forward to Lesnar-Rock, I like the fact that they've built this shot up for Lesnar for a month now, changing it would say "Hey fans, look! This Next Big Thing guy, we were just kidding about him!" Come on man.

I agree, too many ladder matches will make them seem not-so-special. I don't see too many face vs. face matches anymore. If this match starts at about 11:02pm, then we know it's chock full o' run-ins!

I remember when ladder matches were cool. When they used to happen randomly at very spread out times. Now they seem to happen amost every week. Here's the ladder matches I know of from 2001 and 2002:

Royal Rumble 2001-Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho
Wrestlemania X-7-The Hardyz vs. The Dudleyz vs. Edge and Christian (TLC Match).
Judgement Day 2001-Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit (3rd fall).
Smackdown May 2001-The Chrises vs. Edge and Christian vs. The Hardyz vs. The Dudleyz (TLC Match).
Summerslam 2001-Rob Van Dam vs. Jeff Hardy
No Mercy 2001-Edge vs. Christian

RAW June 2002-RVD vs. Eddy Guerrero
MSG House Show-RVD vs. Eddy Guerrero(Does this count?)
RAW July 2002-Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy
RAW July 2002-RVD vs. Jeff Hardy

So that's 6 ladder matches in 2001, and 4 this year, TWO of which were this month! Just shows how much creativity WWE lacks to use this gimmick so much, to make it saturated.

Remember when Hell In The Cell was cool?:

Badd Blood 1997: HBK vs. Undertaker [debut of Kane]
King of the Ring 1998: Mankind vs. Undertaker
WrestleMania XV: Big BossMan vs. Undertaker
No Way Out 2000: Cactus Jack vs. Triple H
Armageddon 2000: Rikishi vs. HHH vs. Undertaker vs. Angle vs. Rock vs. Austin
Judgment Day 2002: Chris Jericho vs. Triple H

Not bad, eh? Six Cell matches since 1997. Of them, three have actually meant something [debut of Kane, retirement of Foley, recurring crazy bump shot on WWF TV]...while of the others, two were pretty good...and one had the Bossman.

What I'm saying is, this is what the WWF needs to do. Less gimmick matches. If there no heat, don't bust out the cell or the ladder or the cage. Leave them at home. Do submission matches, falls anywhere, last man standing...just hold out on ladders, cages and chairs until there's no other way to end the feud. Like HHH vs. Austin. THAT needed a cage to solve it. Benoit vs. Angle NEEDED a Ladder. Jericho/Benoit needed a ladder. I don't think Jericho/HHH needed a cell. More long-term planning could make EVERYTHING a lot better in the long run...sucka.

Freeway420, you are forgetting the Mankind/Kane Hell in a Cell on RAW. There was also the austin/undertaker vs. kane/mankind one on RAW as well.

Austin/Undertaker vs. Kane/Mankind wasn't officially a Cell Match. The cell was lowered during the match and fought in, but was never officially involved in the match. As for Kane/Mankind...I'll have to check that. I'm fairly confident of it's existance, I just couldn't find a date...

*Runs off to check the [Slash]Archives*

Okay, there was a Tag Team Title Cell Match on the 6/15/98 RAW...but it was very short. And as for the Mankind/Kane match...I'm sure it happened, but I don't remember when.
