RVD's gonna be pushing 40 in 5 years time and he doesnt really strike me as the type who'd be able to keep himself motivated enough to perform at the highest level for that long.

I thought RVD was 31....

And Nathan Jones is 38, so the age factor can't be all that important.

RVD doesn't HAVE to be on the show. Sure he's a passable talent and sure he's got a way with the live crowds, but when you think about 'Wrestlemania', the biggest show of the year for wrestling, 'RVD' is NOT very high on most people's list of MUST SEE performers. Austin and Rock... Yes! Hogan and Vince... YES! RVD and his like are just gravy, it's nice to have them there, but you don't NEED them to sell the show.

WCW didn't NEED the midcarders at Starrcade when they had Hogan/Piper. They didn't NEED them when they had Hogan/Savage or Nash/Goldberg or Flair/Hogan or Hogan/Sting.

Then when they did NEED them, nobody cared about them.

    WORST. ANALOGY. EVER.

    1. At a Simon and Garfunkel concert, there is Simon and Garfunkel. They are the main, and only attraction. At Wrestlemania, there is RVD, Kurt, Brock, Benoit, Rhyno, Team Angle, Eddie, Chavo, Matt, Rey etc etc etc. Heck, even the catfight girls...

    2. There's been slightly more warning than five minutes. A week, for example.

    3. It's not incredibly smart, no. But it is slightly smarter when HE'S ON HEAT ANYWAY.

So, in short.. it's like going to a Garfunkel concert, being told a week earlier than Simon is appearing, then getting there and watching Simon, followed by Garfunkel, followed by numerous other popular musicians whom you like.

Seriously, no one is forcing you to buy the PPV... I don't recall them promising before anyone ordered it RVD would definitely be wrestling...

Tell me you didn't mean that serious. No really, tell me, you did not......mean that serious!!!!

      Fuck yeah!

Mania would be the perfect time for Big Slug to break out the moonsault he was working on in WCW on Nathan Jones.

If ever there was a time for Big Show to bust out a Space Flying Tiger Drop, it would be at Wrestlemania, baby!

Oh, and count me in with the rest of the disgruntled since I'll be watching Wrestlemania while Heat airs on the west coast. I love RVD, but I ain't buying TiVO for him.

Screw Rock and Austin! This is the REAL Wrestlemania main event! Fa...WHAT?! What do you mean Fabolous is OUT?! Then who's...? FRED DURST?! Oh dear God, NO!

(pssst... I don't know who Simon and Garfunkel are. Sorry. Hey, forgive me, I'm too young...)

Anyway, the point is, so many people appear to think it's the end of the world that RVD isn't on the main show. That midcarders aren't being built up, WM19 is ruined, the WWE is now in a downward spiral similar to the dying days of WCW etc etc.

By doing this, they're kind of ignoring Brock, Booker, Jericho, and the fact Benoit was going to be slotted into the place Kurt is now. Hell, Edge may have had a big part to play, had he been available. For goodness sakes, it's Wrestlemania. Is it too much to ask that someone could stop crying 'it's the end of the wrestling world as we know it' purely because a guy they happen to be a fan of isn't there?

Yes, I know, it's Wrestlemania. Maybe saying 'no one is forcing you to buy it' is a bit much. But it's still true.. if your judgement of the night is going to be THAT severely affected by a guy being on Heat instead of the main show.. still in a match, then maybe you're best off cancelling your order. If the nine matches they DO have scheduled, plus the fact RVD WILL STILL BE WRESTLING isn't enough for the whining to stop, then why are you even bothering to try watching it? Heck, you clearly know it's going to suck and mark the start of the death of the WWE anyway...

Just watch the show, if you've ordered it, and enjoy it for what's there. Don't sit there and feel so negative about the whole damn thing before it's even had a chance to START.

He is? They are? This must be the famous IWC over-ometer at work again. Dang I wish I had one.

The crowd's been mostly apathetic toward RVD matches for some time now largely because, as oldschool said, hes been putting on the same match since he arrived. He and Kane are undoubtedly still getting pops but these are largely confined to the R..V..D chants and Kane's entrance rather than their ring work.

By contrast the popularity of Matt and Rey is very much on the upcurve, hence they are more deserving of a push. Matt has an increasingly engaging characetr and has shown real willingness to vary his moveset in the past year and the live crowds have really been getting into his gimmick.

Rey gets uber-pops not only for a cool enterance but also for his ever-innovative and uniformly brilliant ringwork. Once they get round to giving him more character depth he has the potential to be a real star.

Mostly apathetic? Riiiight. The fans fucking LOVE RVD. they pop HUGE for his five-star and the Rolling Thunder, and they pop huge for Kane's chokeslam, too. I'm sorry,Mmatt Hardy may be an IWC darling right now, but he's hardly setting the world on fire. To even compare his level of popularity to RVD or, to a lesser degree, Kane, is ridiculous. Rey does get big pops, but not like RVD does. There are as many signs for Rob in the audience as there are for Austin, Rock or Hogan, and those stupid foam hand things are everywhere.

So yeah, that's my IWC over-ometer. it's based on watching the crowd during shows. Also, Smackdown is a pre-taped show that has canned heat, you may recall.

I appreciate that you don't like RVD or Kane. They aren't the coolest wrestlers to be fans of on the internet. But to compare Rey's popularity with RVD's is silly. he might be there someday, but as it stands, RVD blows him out of the water.

Does that mean CRZ can end Mania by saying Good Night?

The match was decent enough. Dudleys do a false face turn by 3Ding Storm, then pulling RVD(who took a moderately sick top rope bump) on top of him, then Bubba decides to turn back heel, drops an elbow on RVD and put Storm on top of RVD. Would have been good enough to be on the big show as there was decent heat throughout.

Cena's rap-off was just him rapping about how Fabolous and Jay-Z ducked him. It was kinda funny.
EDIT: D'oh.

Umm.. no it wasn't. That match was a nonsensical piece of shit. Everyone watching the match at my house thought it was ridiculous, especially with the ultra-long 5 minute MTV commercial break.

Thank god Fred Durst got his face time, though.

I turned to Heat .just to see what the WWE did to Safeco field. Lita and Coach were signing off so I figured I'd catch the big warm up match. I was expecting to see something like Jeff Hardy vs Stevie Richards on Heat. I was quite surprised to see RVD,Kane, The Dudleys and to a smaller extent Storm and Morely all used on Heat.

I think it's a shame the way RVD and Kane have been handled the last 4 - 6 months. They were made to look so bad against Triple H that the WWE could think of nothing better than pairing them up. Not only that but the company plans on having a Raw only PPV and the belts aren't even important enough to pay to see defended.

Let's see what you all say when Booker T gets left off of next years card.
