Let's be fair here. It's not "the" Tag Team Title match. It's "a" Tag Team Title match. There's two sets.

Here's the rationale. The Raw tag titles are not in any sort of major storyline, thanks to Regal's untimely injury/illness. They've only just recently been put back into circulation. Thus, this match should be low on the card, as it has less importance than the others. Wrestlemania's not so much about titles as it is about stories, remember. If it were a match between RVD/Kane and the Dudleyz, at least there'd be a "revenge" theme.

I feel for RVD/Kane/Storm/Morely, not because they're being "gypped out of a big paycheck" which, frankly, I've seen no evidence to prove... I feel for them because they're being put in a tough spot by being, basically, the people the WWE is relying upon to hook the undecided PPV buyers into getting the show. They're under pressure to put on a match that'll get the Heat viewers to say "Damn. Maybe I'll pick up that show after all." That's rough.

I don't get how having new midcarders on a show equals new stars. There were a lot of new faces when WCW was dieing, but they weren't stars. Jeff Jarrett and Booker T were in the Main Events but they weren't stars. New faces don't equal new stars.

WWE has done a HORRIBLE job creating new stars. In the past year, they made Brock Lesnar, that's it. Heyman did a good job undoing the years of crap they did with Kurt Angle.

No one's claiming Angle's a great draw but he's an extremely talented and entertaining and had tremendous upside (before the injury) as a performer because of his ability to make his opponents look great. But tell me how many PPV's has Angle headlined in the past year? *1* - The Vengeance three way he was put in to job.

How have they done a great job creating new stars when they haven't had a PPV Main Event in years that didn't involve HHH, Taker, Rock or Austin?

I think Regal's troubles put the kibash on this match having any meeting. They decided not to pull the trigger on any storyline due to his absence and ended up with a very meaningless title match. I'm less excited about this match than any other on the card, with the exception of Taker's, but Taker's got to be there. I'd be much more excited if they went with RVD vs. Kane.

I disagree. Look at that list I posted earlier. All of them (with the exception of Nathan Jones and a returning Rhyno) are near the top of their respective divisions. Not everyone can be a main eventer. And you can't slam someone into the main event before they're ready, which I'm afraid they're getting ready to do to Cena. Now if you want to argue that they've made no new *main eventers*, then I'll agree. But to say that they haven't made new stars is wrong, in my opinion.

    That's right.

I can't believe how you're all WHINING about this. Which appearance do you think would get Rob van Dam seen by more viewers - a match on the free Heat or a match on the $39.95 WrestleMania?

Proabably WrestleMania considering the amount of people that watch Heat.

Like that time I took the ferry over to Shelbyville; I needed a new heel for my shoe. So, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickle, and in those days, nickles had pictures of bumblebees on them. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. Now that I have had a few days for this to settle inÖIím still just as pissed off about it as before.

Anyone who says that RVD lacks charisma has no idea what the word even means. Charisma doesnít mean mic skills, promo skills, or selling ability. It means that he has the ability to draw a large fan following. He is popular among both the marks and the smarts. People like him.

Charisma
1. a rare quality of power attributed to those persons who have demonstrated an exceptional ability for winning the devotion of large numbers of people.
2. A special quality of personal magnetism or charm.

RVD is maxed out in charisma. He has a charsima of 18. He has more charisma in his two thumbs than Albert has in his hairy back. You canít get more charisma than RVD.

According to my PWI magazine, RVD is the fanís favorite wrestler. He is the most popular wrestler of the year. Just look at the issue. RVD = 36%, Hulk Hogan = 31%, Booker T = 13%, The Rock = 9%.

To not have the most popular wrestler of the year on the most popular PPV of the year is seriously fucked up.

One last take on this topic that I found funny.

From Andrew Burns, in the Observer's Smackdown report
Itís as if someone Heard How Hot the crowd gets for RVD and doesnít like it. Because it seems like no matter How Hard He tries, RVD just canít get to the next level.

Pay attention to the capitalization.

Just strikes me as odd. I mean, if you're in business to make money, wouldn't it make sense to have one of your more popular performers appear in your biggest show of the year?

'Cause let's face it, Van Dam is certainly more popular and charismatic than at least half the guys on the WM card. (Christ, Nathan Jones?)

And since nobody brought it up -- this supposed burying of RVD has nothing to do with the fact that he landed the Five-Star on HHH's adam's apple way back when? No? Okay.....

HA! I didn't even catch that the first time I read it.

Anyone who thinks Triple H doesn't have anything to do with RVD's demotion needs to get their head out of their ass. RVD had been a tippy-top midcarder all year, and flirting with the main-event. Then, he hit Triple H with the frogsplash at Survivor Series. Then, it happened. He was left off the next PPV. He was at the Royal Rumble, but only because they needed thirty guys to fill-out the match. He was in an un-important match at No Way Out, that was announced a week before the show with no build-up. And now he's left off the card of WrestleMania. Hmmm...

But it's not like the incident at Survivor Series was somewhat Triple H's fault. Noooooo way. It's not like Triple H was way too close. It's not like, even when RVD struggled desperatley to not hit Triple H, there was nothing RVD could do. It's AAAALL Van Dam's fault. He's such a bad worker. And he has no charisma. Not over with the crowd at all. Nope.

Have I mentioned that some people are just fucking stupid?

I kind of disagree there cause I'm a big history buff. I still look at the Raw Tag Titles (no matter how shitty the division) as the REAL titles. They're the ones with history (in the same way I see Angle's as the TRUE WWE TITLE as opposed to the Triple H title, with it's WCW/handed to him roots). Thus, I see it as if THE tag titles are not on the show. These same tag titles have been defended for years and years. The ones Team Angle has are relevant, but they're not THE titles in my eyes. I would have liked the familiar titles to be on the show as well.

RVD may have charisma, but to compare him to CHRIST! If USA Today did a pole I think CHRIST would crush RVD in a popularity contest. God, I mean I don't see Rappers thanking RVD when they win awards. Nathan Jones would totally get punked by The Lord And Savior, and I guess Lord & Taylor as well.

I don't think Christ was charismatic so much as he just had really good PR rep for his time. Being a carpenter, and supposedly NOT a very good one, having 12 guys following you around does wonders for you self image.

As often as he's been mentioned (not just here, but everywhere else too), what in hell does Nathan Jones have to do with RVD not being on the card? Honestly, stop and think about that.

We've bitched and bitched and bitched about Nathan Jones being on the card, but what bearing does that have on RVD's absense? NONE.

He is in Undertaker's match. Nobody is going to debate whether or not Undertaker deserves a match on the WrestleMania card, workrate or no. So Undertaker gets his match, and he's teaming with Nathan Jones (somebody got a better idea for a partner?).

RVD is on the OTHER side of the Brand split, and is thus unaffected. It's not like he could have been Taker's partner, because he's not on Smackdown, and it's not like Taker wouldn't have had a match in the first place, so the time was taken already anyway. So, to argue that it's Nathan Jones' fault that RVD isn't on the card (or that Nathan shouldn't be on and RVD should) is pretty futile, since the two aren't really connected.

Now, coming in from No Way Out, it seemed to be pretty obvious to me that the WWE was building up three more possible matches on the RAW side for WrestleMania, RVD v. Kane (with all the infighting and backstabbing that they did), Goldust/Steiner v. Orton/Batista (do to their issues) and Dudleyz v. Storm/Regal (do to their months of set up). However, Orton and Batista both got injured and were knocked off the card (taking Goldust and Steiner with them), Bubba was hurt in that same match leaving HIS title match in some murky water, then Regal got hurt too, and that match was scrapped because for a while it looked like D-Von and Storm were the only ones that could work the match. So the WWE kept it's most over, healthy, tag team in Kane and RVD together, and moved the belt over from Regal to Morely so that at the very least they could squeeze one match out of this mess. Unfortunately, given that the competetors were involved in months of build for two compeletly different matches, there's no way that they could do enough to smush together a match that had enough build to be anything but tacked to the PPV as any more than a P.S. Here's a tag title match. It belongs on Heat.

He didn't include any references to glass ceilings, steroids, quad tears, or screwing Stephanie, so I can't give him any higher than a B+ in good conscience...

Oh no? I wouldn't be too sure about that.

Allow me to extend my loathing to not only Nathan Jones, but also to the other three fatheads in a match that sits in the middle of the card like a pile of dog crap. None of those guys deserves to be on the card, and that includes Taker. We're rewarding slower-than-shit old timers with WM matches now? Since when?

Don't assume my comments about VAN DAM were my thoughts on his match. No, maybe that jerry-rigged tag title match isn't WM caliber. But RVD sure is, and they should have found a way to get him on the card. And while, sure, it's not Nathan Jones' FAULT that Van Dam got the shaft, there's no way a guy like him, OR Show, OR Albert, or yes, even the almighty Undertaker, should have been handed a spot ahead of RVD.

In my opinion.
