I have a friend who is a Rush fan. They were great live except for one thing, Geddy Lee's voice has to be one of the most irritating in the RnR universe. And we saw them about 25 years ago when he was young. When he dropped the Donald Duck on helium shtick he was actually pretty good but that wasn't often.
Rush was actually my first concert back in 1990 at the Worcester Centrum. I saw them a few times after that, but never really got back into them after my early 20's. I still crank the Chronicles set in the car now and again, though.
From what I've heard, the last tour was awesome so I would expect the anniversary run to be just as good. More By-Tor and less Presto, I say.
I'll be traveling down to Seattle to see them, as they don't have an announced Vancouver date. This'll be the fifth time I've seen them. Thus far the last time (2003) was the best. Maybe you'll grace us with a review of the San Antonio show perrinthewolf?
I'm also eagerly awaiting their new EP of covers. I've heard their version of "Summertime Blues" and, while not as good as the Who's version from 'Live At Leeds' its still pretty cool
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts" --Bertrand Russell
When I was in second grade, my big bro showed me the lyrics for "Red Barchetta". Being about 8, I was thrilled that I could understand the lyrics in a rock song. "Whoa, it's about a sci-fi car chase?! Sweet!" My bro used to cue them up whenever we played "Gamma World", too. Thus, I always have to see them with my big bro. Just wouldn't be the same.
Think this is the fourth time we've seen them. Saw them for "Roll the Bones" in 1992, the 2112 re-dux in 1996 and the last tour. Seeing other bands live, I was always sick of how certain songs sounded completely different, performed live. Or lazy singers who would hold the mike over the crowd and say "sing it for me, NAME OF TOWN!" With Rush, the sound was amazing and the band didn't mess around. They came off like true, professional musicians.
Anyways, we're going to their Denver/Red Rocks date.. whenever that is.
