Canadian prog-rock power trio (and my favorite band) Rush will appear on the Colbert Report tomorrow night at 11:30. This will be their first appearance on American television in over 30 years. They'll be performing Tom Sawyer.

Kind of odd timing for this, as they're about to wind up a big tour, and they don't have a new record to promote. Also, they're all old, and play Subdivisions at 3/4 tempo. Regardless, it should be cool.

I'm surprised Stephen didn't poke fun at their Canadian heritage.

I am not surprised that he asked them since they're known to create long, epic songs, if they've ever influenced themselves from the recording of an earlier part of the song. That was awesome.

Full episode here.

I usually laugh quite frequently while watching the Report, and adding Rush jokes to the mix was like peanut butter in my chocolate. I still can't quite believe that he read from the book of By-Tor with a straight face. And that clip of Anthem! Geddy Lee has always been, and will always be the ugliest man in rock.

He kind of made an oblique poke at their heritage with the Canadian PM joke. But then, I would expect him to make that joke on any show.

Between this and the Rolling Stone article, I'm thinking that Rush is getting into the Hall of Fame within the next year or two.

Rush SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame. I saw Rush in concert back in 1989 and it still remains one of the best shows live I have seen. Thankfully they opened with Big Money - which was great because I hated that song and wa sa-fearing they would close with it. Getting out of the way early meant not having to wait for them to play it.

Subdivisions is still one of my favorite songs of all time. And Neal Pert (sp?) should go down as one of the greatest drummers of our time and the driving force behind all Rush songs.

"Marriage is like that show Everybody Loves Raymond, but its not funny. All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense. Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever."

In related news, Rush sucks at Rock Band. Nas does not.

This isn't really related news.

We were talking somewhere else about why we cut off threads. This is a good example of those "two weeks later, long after the relevant topic was done" replies we try to avoid by setting thread expiration.

I'm not sure that is entirely real. When you watch Nas, his fingers are constantly on the green and red buttons when the notes are yellow, blue, and orange. Also, I'm pretty sure that on expert nearly five stars would net you more than 51,000 points. In fact, if you watch this video, you see that he gets to 5-stars at just over 71.000 points.

Plus, that looks like a Guitar Hero guitar, and while there are third-party guitars, the dude from Rush used the actual Rock Band guitar.

I can't comment on the minimum score for Tom Sawyer on Expert. But I can say that the Guitar Hero guitar can be used in Rock Band 360, which is the system they were playing on. Nas may just prefer the GH guitar over the RB guitar.
