- Many backstage feel that Rhyno is being buried by Vince McMahon partly due to being an ECW/Paul Heyman creation, much like Rob Van Dam. Many in WWE seem to still be "fighting the war" against WCW and ECW (despite the war obviously being over) and thus sometimes do not push "WCW and ECW talent."
This makes no sense, but even an RVD hater can see that the WWE buried any shot at RVD getting over huge. It makes no sense the people love him and the guy is going to make you money so what the fuck
- Word backstage is that WWE has purposely changed Smackdown recently to make it more like RAW. Thus, the show has had more focus on vignettes and storylines and less focus on wrestling.
Sure, why not. Don't want a diversified fan base or anything.
I can't believe their stock is worth anything with shit like this going on.
Is that from a "Scherer is full of shit" point of view or one that says "that makes no sense, why is WWE doing this?" I'm guessing the former based on the title of the thread.
The fact is that Rhyno lost his spot when he got hurt. I know he wouldn't have even had the angle otherwise, but when he was getting kicked out of the Alliance and everyone was surrounding him in the corner in the ring- he was just like "fuck it, I'll gore everybody" and it got a pretty damn good pop, but he never got to follow up on that obviously. His only real mention while he was away was when he did that extremely bad sit-down interview on HeAT with Cole and Tazz. I don't think he ever had a shot of being HUGE huge, but the neck thing pretty much killed him and he hasn't recovered since. His moveset has also been very limited since then, for whatever reason.

As has been said in other threads semi-recently, it's very hard these days to determine who really is a draw. Since most of us aren't working for WWE financial and getting in-depth numbers on merchandise and ticket sales in relation to RVD, we're basically stuck with ratings numbers and as we saw with the main event of Raw last week, RVD even in a very good gimmick match isn't exactly The Ratings Man.
Of course, that comes back to "well if they expect him to be treated seriously, they shouldn't have buried him so badly." Van Dam got probably the biggest "initial ego test overpush followed by humbling period" thingy ever. I'm not positive about the time frame, but it was all of like 5-6 months in and he had already beaten Austin, Angle, and Rock. That's a very selective group- thinking only Jericho, UT, and HHH- and none of them did that in their first 6 months. (6 months being pointless, as Jericho would have been the only one who could have possibly done that... and I'm not even sure Austin was around for Jericho's first 6 months.) Anyway, Van Dam got pegged early as a sloppy/stiff worker, which I still believe to be the reason as to why he never got the title and most likely won't get it for a long, long time. When a certain wife started bitching on the internet about Rob working stiff with her hubby, everybody took notice and Kurt Angle turned into Kurt Warner. Of course, Angle (and a lot of people Rob wrestled around that time) came out of the match with a bloody nose, where as Angle once famously left Bob Holly with a broken arm. But he's still Kurt Angle and nobody really cares about Bob Holly anyway.
Point being, Scherer might have some validity to his statements, but Van Dam and Rhyno both already have/had outside factors working against them, to the point where anybody can pick and choose whatever excuse they want to make a case for either guy not getting the push that Joe Anybody wants to see.
Still, nobody left from the Alliance will ever win the world title unless HHH, Goldberg, Kane, and Jericho all die in a plane crash. And who's left on SD... Rhyno, O'Hare, Palumbo, Kanyon... yeah, they're not even in "4 guys die in a plane crash" range.
As for that Raw becoming SD thing... Scherer made a rather large typo.
Thus, the show has had more focus on The McMahons and less focus on wrestling.
Corrected. What he said overall might be the case, but I'll wait and see how many "Big Show has the drizzling shits" segments are on this week.
In my opinion, this is less a case of Rhyno and RVD being buried because they're Heyman creations, and more a case of their individual situations.
From everything we've heard about RVD -- right down to his recent interviews -- he is not willing to play company politics. He acknowledges that the politics exist, and that probably hurts him more than anything else.
Rhyno's case is, well, exactly like Ubermonkeys said. He isn't seen as a top guy, and probably the biggest success he's had is the programs with Benoit and, from the InVasion era, with Jericho. He's NOT a big guy, which is what his character needs to be to get over. But I think the guy still has a role in SmackDown, which doesn't imply being buried to me.
And yes, Scherer's constant bashing of WWE is completely uncalled for. It ruins the guy's credibility. I have WAY more to say about him, but I'll save that for another time.
Goldberg tells all in a tell-all interview where he tells all!!! Tons of news about Triple HHH!!! All this plus the ONLY wrestling cartoon anywhere in the latest Inside The Ropes!!!
Oh, I agree on both accounts. I would just prefer if the site loaded from time to time ---=---:---=--- [Look up a line] Wow, that belt looks like crap... I'll take it and carry it around for years and see if people can take it away from me... What?
