Right, so the plan is to have the guy who busted out the Miz's teeth fight the guy who got so badly concussed in his last match that Randy Orton had to assure his children that he was going to be okay?

Solid plan. Book it.

I don't always listen to WOL, but when I do (once, yesterday, to hear that hard-hitting interview with Trips/Paul/Hunter/Triple H/whatever), I caught Alvarez saying that while Shane is wrestling at Mania, he doesn't think it's against AJ.

FWIW

Please be right.

Any one of New Day would also be a good ARMBAR winner, for what it's worth, especially to tease New Day potentially splitting up.)

Idea: have the New Day team up with Shaq to face Big Show and three teammates (Rusev, Jinder, Titus?) in order to get more guys on the card and help account for the fact that Shaq can't actually wrestle, even in an overbooked singles match.

As a match, this would be terrible. As booking, though? This is pretty, pretty good. Putting New Day in the segment likely to get ESPN coverage is a very smart idea, and putting Rusev in the same segment so he can hijack all the coverage by being funny-ass Rusev and saying something hilarious to Shaq and thus forcing them to push him when everyone realizes there's this giant badass Bulgarian dude who is also bafflingly charismatic is excellent.

Shane/Styles would be a slap three feet away from the face with plenty of daylight showin' to what Styles has done all year. Stop making Shane wrestle. Or, if Shane is wrestling, saddle HHH's glory-hog ass with him for once.

If Shane is wrestling someone who isn't AJ and isn't HHH...is it Miz, with Shane as Bryan's Avatar in some really weird backwards scenario? Miz might actually benefit from a match against Shane, especially if he gets to basically retire him, but that takes the Annual Multi-Man Intercontinental Title Match For Guys We Forgot To Book This Year off the table, leaving Ambrose/Ziggler/Corbin out in the cold.

EDIT: Wait...Shane vs. Ziggler, right? Dolph is Pure Evil/Poor Man's Naito now and feuding with Legally Unable To Wrestle Jerry Lawler, which will probably lead to a confrontation with Financially Disincentivized To Wrestle JBL which will require a response from Ethically Not Cleared To Wrestle Daniel Bryan, who, if beaten down physically or verbally, will then lead to a response from Morally Why Are You Making Us Watch Him Wrestle Shane McMahon.

The idea to put Big Show vs. Shaq in a multi-man match is great but I think I'd prefer Enzo and Cass. Maybe it's just because I think New Day has been stale for a very, very long time but I think a Enzo and Shaq segment could epic and Cass is one of the few guys I could see getting some believable offense on Big Show. Heck, as much as I dislike Big Show, Cass getting the final blow on him (but then letting Shaq get the pin) would be a nice rub for Cass. Rusev should definitely be involved though.

I know that a lot of people want to see Cena and Taker as a one-on-one match in a career vs. record type thing but I kind of feel like the best thing to do is throw AJ in there for a threeway. AJ deserves it and Taker can take a breather every once in a while.

If nothing else, leave Shinsuke on NXT to work on his English promos for a while, which are still pretty brutal.

Joe, to me, has been screaming "dialing it in" for a while now. I can't imagine that him (or the E) have any plan other than to get to the main roster, get an initial push, drop to the midcard and put people over for a couple years, and basically try to take his last few good years to get some decent cash and a job at the Performance Center out of it.

But I would actually not be that surprise if that "initial push" part has him winning the Rumble. I mean, the belts are going to be, what, the 4th & 6th match on the card? Joe vs. AJ or Joe vs. Owens, or Joe vs. whoever beats one of those two isn't that hard to imagine.

I still don't understand why they didn't bring in Angle on a legends contract a year or two ago and feed him to Brock (or heck, to Rusev when he was on a run). I can't see him doing any kind of real run at this point, much less keep up with AJ Styles.

EDIT: ok, I give up, someone smarter than me format this right?

Now that we know Smackdown gets an Elimination Chamber match for the Real Title in February, that would seem to make it a lock that the Rumble winner is challenging for the Universal Title, right?

So, options:

Kevin Owens retains the belt over Reigns and
a) Jericho wins the Rumble (unlikely)
b) Balor returns and wins the Rumble (unlikely)
c) Undertaker wins the Rumble (unlikely, but I think I might love Owens vs. Undertaker, especially if Owens wins, which is...unlikely)

Roman Reigns wins the belt from Owens and
a) Balor returns and wins the Rumble (unlikely)
b) BRAUN wins the Rumble (possible, but I don't see it)
c) Brock wins the Rumble and we get Brock/Reigns again (possible, but...please no?)
d) Goldberg wins the Rumble (I mean, I could see it.)
e) Cena wins the Rumble (if not for Cena/Styles and probably wanting Cena for the Elimination Chamber, I'd be pretty convinced of this being right)
e) Undertaker wins the Rumble ("Roman Reigns, the fans like to chant 'Roman's Sleeping', but at Wrestlemania, I'll make sure you REST. IN. PEACE. NGMGMHMGNMnnnnn.")

You know how WWE usually produces a really great hype video for one of the matches each year using a popular song of the moment? I've convinced myself that a Roman Reigns one with the song Human by Rag'n'Bone Man would get him over. I think this every time I hear that song.

Owens winning and beating Undertaker at Wrestlemania would give him an unlimited amount of bluster and credibility.
face: You take shortcuts!
Owens: But I don't need to! I beat John Cena on my first night! I'm only one of two men to beat the Undertaker at Wrestlemania! I'm the longest reigning Universal champion!

And it would make him a star for life. So it absolutely won't happen.

The Shane injury probably wouldn't have helped, but the story is they switched to Goldberg/Lesnar instead when Goldebrg got a big reaction (and ratings growth) in his return and they immediately decided they wanted to stretch it out.

I would like to solve the puzzle.

- Roman Reigns doesn't (!) win the title on Sunday, wrestles Undertaker at Mania
- Brock Lesnar wins the Royal Rumble
- Goldberg beats Kevin Owens for the Universal Title at Fastlane
- Samoa Joe could debut in the Rumble, but his real business will be winning the Elimination Chamber to put him in the Mania title match against Cena
- Triple H enters the Rumble as a surprise since he's the defending winner, but he's thrown out by Mad Rollins

Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar (Universal Title)
John Cena vs. Samoa Joe (WWE Title)
Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns (turn Roman LOL)
Seth Rollins vs. Triple H
Shane McMahon vs. AJ Styles
Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens
Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt
Big Show and Shaq vs. Braun Strowman and friend (TWIST!)
Bayley beating Charlotte in a match with or without friends
assorted combos and multi-matches for all the other workaday wrestlers.

If they are doing Roman vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania (and they must, because I have put "Roman's Sleeping" vs. "REST IN PEACE" into the world and now I will double-down and say that a WrestleMania headlined by Roman/Undertaker would be sold as WRESTLEMANIA: REIGNS IN HELL), then let me predict the Rumble finish: Jericho has the US title in the Shark Tank and drops it down to Owens, because no way Roman loses clean. This also means not saving the Streak to have Roman finally turn heel to break it is a huge missed opportunity.

Re: Cena vs. Joe for the belt...this scenario means Cena wins and ties the record at the Rumble, right? And Joe beats him at the Chamber, since the Chamber match is for the belt? So Joe vs. Cena at WrestleMania is for the Flair-Breaking Reign?

HHH booking himself to only get eliminated unfairly by someone not in the match sounds about right. Also, why didn't Seth Rollins attack HHH at Linda's Senate hearing today?

Shane vs. AJ is still a major insult to what AJ did this year and more importantly a major insult to me, the viewer.

Braun's friend...Rusev? TITUS? I...no they wouldn't do Show'Neal vs. Brauntitus would they? They can't hate us that much.

I think Goldberg winning the title from KO at Fastlane and defending against Lesnar at WM is likely but they don't really need the Rumble winner for that since Lensar and Goldberg are already feuding and destined for a match at WM. That to me is throwing away the Rumble winner on something that doesn't need it (not that the WWE would never do that.)

Triple H said in an interview that he thinks the Royal Rumble winner is really going to surprise us. That makes me think that it's going to be Samoa Joe because:
A) While this isn't a surprise to most of us (and some of us have fantasy booked it) I could see that as something the WWE thinks is a surprise.
B) I don't know, maybe this is just me being a Triple H hater, but this sounds a lot like Hunter patting himself on the back for another guy from his beloved NXT showing up to get all the headlines

So I've got pretty much the same lineup just getting there in different ways.

Can Ellsworth be Strowman's twist partner?? He IS a heel now. How great would that be if Ellsworth is his partner and Strowman stills beat Big Show and Shaq?

the reasoning for AJ fighting Shane is Shane's the biggest name left on the SmackDown side who's not otherwise busy. Orton and Bray are locked together. Cena is presumably otherwise occupied. The Undertaker is a SmackDown guy maybe??? but he's busy too. AJ vs Dolph or Miz or Corbin or I dunno Kane could work, but Shane was in (arguably) the biggest match in last year's WrestleMania and they're trying to reward AJ for the year he had by giving him the biggest possible spotlight of all the options they have. AJ vs Dolph might (would!) be a better match but AJ/Shane would feel like a bigger deal on a WrestleMania, and you might as well save the actual good AJ opponents for the other 11 months of the year where they're less likely to be short on time. (Nakamura/AJ would be the best possible AJ match, but might be better served getting 25 minutes on a SmackDown only show than getting used as an 8 minute spot here.)

the reasoning for AJ not to fight Shane is Shane is a terrible professional wrestler who hurts the credibility of anyone who has to do extended selling for him. WWE is under the weird belief Shane is actually kinda of good and can go with AJ, which is mildly insulting to AJ. A Shane match at WM will also likely be built around Shane doing something crazy, which is not a great way to build up AJ.

At best, Shane McMahon is the wacky celebrity cameo in a match that WWE used to be very high on doing and has kind of scaled away (until here comes Shaq). In reality, it's an intriguing challenge to see if AJ can get a three star match out someone who's probably less help than a broomstick.
