So I was watching Excess for some reason after the football game tonight, and with the UT vs HBK Royal Rumble '98 match was the "from the vault" match tonight, it caught my attention.

Anyway, not long before the end of the show, Coach says that in the Rumble that "superstars will be entering every minute thereafter" or something like that. But I definitely heard the EVERY minute part. Please tell me that Coach doesn't know what he's talking about and that the interval will still be 2 minutes. The one time they tried 1 minute intervals it, well, sucked. There's no better way to put it.

It looks like it IS minute intervals, based on what they've said on Jakked and HeAT.

Dammit.

Man, that sucks. The only way one minute intervals would be okay is if they had at least *50* participants.

I remember when they used to have the first two entrants start, and then the third wouldn't come out until the five minute mark. How many Rumbles did they do that at anyway? (its been quite a while since I've seen any Rumble from before '92)

If it is one minute intervals, I'm worried about the rest of the card.

We've got a WWF (sorry "unified") title match, IC title match, Tag-Title match (you can tell I watch Heat), and Vince vs. Flair. A one-minute interval rumble with 30 men shouldn't take more than 45 minutes. That either leaves a few more matches yet to be signed (a Euro or Woman's defense most likely, maybe a Cruiser or Hardcore. Who is the hardcore champ nowdays anyway?) or a 45 minute Flair/Vince match. Or both.

They've always toyed with the timing - I think it was a minute and a half one year, too. Guess we'll get a sped-up one this year - I prefer the 2 minute interval as well, but a 1 minute interval isn't too bad.

I hope it'll be more like 90 seconds, although they have screwed with the timing before.

THe timing has NEVER been consitant...they just try to bring them around the right mark but do it when it's convienent...ie. the whole Honky Tonk Segment last year...waiting until Kane cleared the ring of the Hardcore guys last year (which lead to said Honky Tonk man segment). So there have been shorter and longer time periods throughout the same Rumble.

I for one hope they go with '90 second intervals'.

Especially now with the more choreographed rumbles where everything has a purpose I guess they screw around with the intervals. But does it matter?

Who knows, maybe they are one minute so we have everyone in the ring pretty fast and then we have a 20 minute match between the final 4 or something.
A one minute interval though does mean that by the time Big Show gets to the ring the next guy's music is already playing..

Imagine this is some funny signature. Then I will imagine you compliment me on it.

If it's only one minute, the UT would just be half-way down the ring when the next wrestler comes out. That would be quite silly. I like 90 seconds. It's not too long, so we don't get one guy staying in the ring all alone killing the crowd heat. It's also not too short so we don't get incidents like the possible UT one I just described (unless he's one of the last competitors, so that makes it moot).

If it is only one minute.... you would have the UT come out... and even before he hits the ring the big slow would come out.... and before they both hit the ring the next person would be in the aisle.... The WWF needs some quicker big men.

People are having a nervous breakdown over the intervals in the Royal Rumble. Those of you that watch the PPV this weekend, have a stopwatch with you. For shits and giggles, time the intervals of various superstars coming to the ring. It doesn't matter if they say "every 90 seconds" or "every two minutes" or whatever... the time intervals vary based on whats going on in the ring... Usually, they are between 90 seconds and two minutes, so for those of you freaking out at the concept of 60-second intervals, calm down. Everything will be ok.

They are usally between 90 seconds and 2 minutes when they advertise it as 90 minutes or 2 mins. If they were to have it the same as always, like you said, then why say it will be 1 mintute this year? This probably means that this year will not be the same as the others.

They generally send out the wrestlers around the scheduled time. Thus, if the intervals are supposed to be 60 seconds, sometimes guys will come out at like 55 seconds, sometimes, it might not be until like 1 minute and 15 seconds.

I know one year I timed the intervals and they were supposed to be two minutes. I don't think hardly any of them got over 1:55. Who knows what will happen this year.

Another thing that annoys me is when the announcers start talking about how long a wrestler has been in the ring during the Rumble. They like to talk about how Flair went for over an hour and yes, if the intervals had really been two minutes each, he would've been in there for over an hour. The thing is, I'm pretty sure those intervals were short and he 'only' had to go for about 45-50 minutes. I put 'only' in quotes because I use that term loosely. Thats still a really damn long time. Nice work by The Man.

I'm not 100% sure about the time on Flair in the ring. Please correct me if you've got a copy of the tape or whatever.

Ooh, I just thought of something that worries me. Maybe they're planning on having someone like the Undertaker win the thing from the #1 position. He couldn't go an hour, but he could go 35 minutes. Hence the shorter intervals.

Just a thought.

Oh no. I just thought of someone else who couldn't go an hour. Hogan.

Last time I checked the tape, he went pretty much exactly sixty minutes.

I'm pretty sure they did that at the Rumble, although it may have only been at the first one (1988). The '88 Rumble was *not* a PPV, it was on USA Network (that may be why no one else remembers it, I don't think it was released on video.)
