Simple question...who's going to win it...

Obviously out of thirty men who enter, only maybe 10 at most ever have a legit shot to win it. This year we have Booker T, RVD, Trips if he doesn't have the title, Brock, Edge, Eddy, Kurt, and maybe Jericho or Benoit.

Then there is a whole category of the ifs. Chris Kanyon, Rhyno, Nash, Hogan, Undertaker, SCSA, and even HBK if he doesn't have the title and is determined not to go away like he said he would. Now most of these guys in the if list don't really stand much of a chance either, but I think they are big enough names to make an impact or take out someone such as a Big Show, Rikishi, or Kane.

The answer may also lie in how they are going to do it. Will the brands be seperated or will there be the usual rumble. Also, the rules may stipulate how the rumble may go. If it is a shot at the winners respective brands title then I think it is more up in the air than if the WWE or Smackdown title is put up for Wrestlemania. If so I think that it is Brock's rumble to win. He should be chasing the title, and the Kurt fued is beginning to come together I hear, so I don't know whether they need the belt to fight over to make it interesting to the causal fan or whether those two big stars going at it. I think that this is money in the bank provided they don't mess this up. (I can already hear you laughing. Come on, they can't screw this one up can they, I mean look how they handled..um..well, nevermind)

Anyway, I think your winner for the '03 rumble will be Brock, but I'd personally love for it to be Booker T or RVD...not because they have deserved it, or the fact that neither one of them is getting any younger, but just for the fact that I'd love to see Vince's face if they become bigger stars than one's he's 'created'. Anyway, these are my thoughts. I'd like to hear yours.

I'd pick Lesnar. Also, Batista will get the Diesel push.

Something I think could work with the Royal Rumble and make it even more important to win it. What do you guys think about the winner of the Royal Rumble getting a shot at BOTH world titles at Wrestlemania?? I can see it as one of two ways:

(1) A three-way match where the match can only end with the RR winner pinning a champ, or a champ pinning the RR winner -- one champ can't pin the other champ. That could lead to some interesting play if, say, you have a face RR winner from Smackdown and a heel Smackdown champ -- the heel Smackdown champ would have to choose if he wants to try to pin the face RR winner from Smackdown, or help him pin the Raw champ. Then if the RR winner wins the title from the opposite show the show that he's from can boast of having both titles, at least for a month until the next PPV, where the show-without-a-champ still has booking power over the championship and can book a no-way-to-win scenario to bring the title back. To me, that can at least partially help Raw close the gap between the perceived value of the shows.

(2) A reverse of the Hart/Lugar Royal Rumble tie of the past. Instead of two winners facing one champ, you have two champs facing one winner. Have a coin flip to see which champ the RR winner faces first, and the other one has a world title defense to open up Wrestlemania, then faces the RR champ in the main event. To add to the intrigue, they can set it up so that IF the RR winner takes a title in the first match, the second match -- to avoid it becoming a unification match -- is automatically a nontitle match. Then again you can have some interesting interplay if you have the RR winner face the opposite show's champ first. A heel Smackdown champ would be put in a position where maybe he'd want to interfere FOR a face RR winner from Smackdown in their match against the Raw champ in order to avoid THEIR match being for the title. Then the face would be put in a position of deciding whether to accept said help while the announcers (from Raw) put over the cowardly, dastardly actions of the Smackdown champ, trying to avoid putting their title on the line.

I think that would be an AWESOME way to use the two brands and make the Royal Rumble much more interesting, and adding a few layers of intrigue to Wrestlemania.

Having a 3-way match with both champions would present the possible problem of a Raw wrestler winning the Smackdown title or vice-versa. There's no more brand jumping, so a trade would have to be instituted and it would just make for too convoluted of a storyline.

I'd much rather see one brand have a Rumble and the other do something else or just have the winner face off against his brand's champion. Then Damaja can win and we'll have an OVW title match headling Wrestlemania. Ok, maybe not that last part.

Actually, if I was doing the booking a Raw wrestler WOULD win the Royal Rumble and then the Smackdown title. I think the balance of power is strongly in Smackdown's corner, and doing that could help elevate Raw a bit while still keeping Smackdown strong. The Raw wrestling would have the Smackdown title on Raw, and Bischoff could gloat all he wants while Steph fumes.

That also sets up a fun month on Smackdown as Steph -- who would still have booking power over the Raw wrestler, but only on PPVs, as that was the only time Raw and Smackdown "co-produced" events -- tried to find the best challenger possible to bring the title home, all the while tilting the deck towards the Smackdown challenger as well. Each wrestler could try to convince Steph that HE was the best one to bring the title home, and we could even be treated to a fun tournament (add just two people to the "top six" everyone loves so much, and you have a nice eight-man tourney).

So I don't think the lack of interaction allowed between Raw and Smackdown would harm things -- I think actually it would help. No trade necessary, just the "stealing" of the Smackdown title and then the effort to get it back at the next PPV.

The only thing I can see happening is the Undertaker eliminating the shit out of Maven to avenge last year . . .

Hopefully Angle will duck Lesnar to get his knee scoped and Brock will have to win the Rumble to get his shot against him at WM 19.

Seems logical to me that Angle's fighting Benoit next month, so I'm betting everything on a Brock win.

Have the World Title get held up because of some controversial bullshit in another RVD/Triple H match on RAW. Make it so that the winner of the Rumble becomes World Champion AND gets the shot at the WWE Title at Wrestlemania. Have whoever wins the Rumble win it in controversial fashion, leading to two matches with the 2 runners' up. Let's say, for the sake of argument, RVD wins the Rumble and the world title, but wins because of some controversy against Brock and Triple H. Then, at No Way Out, RVD gets roped into 2 matches. The first one is for the world title, so hell, let him go over Trips, and the second match is against Brock for the Wrestlemania title shot. This works for Bischoff because he wants to make sure the RAW guy keeps the RAW title, so Bischoff takes the title match at No Way Out and lets Steph give Brock take the Mania contender match. RVD beats Trips, and keeps the belt, but then loses later to Brock in a very close match, and let Angle come out to help Brock win to return the favour for Armageddon. So RVD is screwed out of the WWE title shot, but he co-mainevents with Trips in a gimmick match to blow off the feud---have it be a Last Man Standing for the World Title. Then we get Brock and Angle for the Mania main for the WWE title, and I'm assuming Brock goes over to win his belt back, give Kurt some time off so he can come back around KOTR time and feud all summer with Lesnar.

Can Angle duck Lesnar in a way that won't make him a heel?

Hmmm, how about this - Heyman says that the contract states that HIS CLIENT gets a guranteed rematch against Kurt Angle. Paul then introduces his CLIENT - Chris Benoit. That's a clever enough way for Angle to duck Lesnar.

So what becomes of the Big Show now? I give him two months before his first Velocity appearance.

The Royal Rumble has the potential to be a real strong card given the limited amount of match spots available. This is how I see it shaping up:

Angle vs Benoit
HHH vs Steiner - Unless HHH's injury is really bad.
Rumble match itself
Booker & Goldust vs Jericho & Christian - Maybe some kind of gimmick match here
Women's Title Match: Victoria versus Trish with Jazz finally returning.

That leaves one or two more matches. I think Rey should be back but I don't see them actually doing a Rey-Albert feud. I'd do Los Guerreros versus Rey & Kidman. They'll probably do Show/Albert against Edge/Rey.

I think the Rumble should be the winner gets a shot at his brand's title at Mania. That'd create for some interesting psychology of hated RAW rivals joining forces to take out Smackdown superstars and vice versa.

Angle can duck Lesnar without being a heel. Hell, Rock "ducked" Lesnar for 2 months.

See, *I* was thinking that they could do TWO Rumbles - one for Raw, one for SmackDown - the winner of each getting the show at the World or WWE Title at WrestleMania. If they got a few "guest appearances", they could have two 30-man Rumbles, and still have enough time for a couple of title matches. I, for one, would be all for it. The Rumble is an event that everybody always looks forward to - why not double the pleasure?

Imo one 60 minute + rumble can be tiring enough already, especially for the live crowd.
Maybe a 15, 20 man rumble with each having some slightly different rules? like the SD one also has pinning and submitting..

I'd say they do the 2nd Rumble for the World title at No Way Out in February.

How about just having a longer Rumble with 20 from each show and allowing the winner to choose which Belt he wants to shoot for at Wrestlemania? You can have 2 months of Eric and Steph wooing the Rumble winner on why thier title is better suited for them to go for -or- why they should NOT go for thier title.

Yes, but if you remember correctly, this led to the Rock getting boos like it was 1998.

I agree with Cerberus, and I think I've said it before. 40 might be too many for a rumble, though... 30 seems so right, but I think the winner should get "free-agency" and a guarnteed title shot to boot. Say, for example, RVD wins. Well, he could stay on RAW and challenge HHH at 'Mania, but he feels that he has some unresolved history with the SD Champ (Will Lesnar have it back after WWE gives away the match we drool about on free TV so Angle can have surgery?), so he jumps to SD for his title shot. Or, say Jericho wins, and he KNOWS he can't beat HHH, so he takes a shot at Angle or Lesnar or whoever holds the strap.

Or, the reward for winning is questioned when the current champ from one show WINS the rumble and faces the other champ for unification.

Or, SCSA wins again and takes his pick of victims.

Or, Hokie had a point. What if you get two title shots? Booker wins and faces Triple H. He loses, but goes on to face Angle, who just wrestled a non-title match against Lesnar. Booker wins the WWE title from Kurt. Insert any four wrestlers into this formula, reminiscent of WMX. (Like Hart/Hart stole the show, Angle/Lesnar may)

I was thinking along the lines of 2 15 to 20 man Rumbles for each brand. They might have to reduce entrance times to 90 seconds to get all of them in.

Then, the two winners face off at No Way Out, with the winner getting their particular title match as the main event at Wrestlemania.

Whoa, nelly. the title shot thing is the greatest part of the Royal Rumble-it gives us a good idea of what to expect in two months' time at Mania, and done right it can be used to build an awesome feud.

As long as they stay away from the Russo-esque Title Shot switchs 23 times between Rumble and Mania booking the title shot at Rumble paves the road to Mania.
