No real surprise, but this makes me very sad.

Francis has been my favorite player for years. He is easily the most underrated player in NHL history, if not one of the most underrated players in the history of team sport.

Anyone wanna join me at his Hall of Fame induction in five years?

Aw, bummer. He was one of those guys always great to watch. A real leader without being an attention-seeker.

It was both a shock and a pleasure to see him in a Leaf uniform in 2004.

Ron Francis is a wonderful man. Although I was expecting him to retire, I was kind of hoping he'd come back to Pittsburgh to be our checking center.

What, Shanahan doesn't do it for ya?

Although I concur with the underrated sentiment.

It was rumoured before the lockout that Pittsburgh made him an offer. Would have been awesome to see him with the Pens in his final season.
