Well, compared to Parallel Lines it is. Take the top three songs on each album (and by top 3, I mean most popular):
Parallel Lines: One Way or Another Heart of Glass Sunday Girl
ATYCLB: Beautiful Day Stuck in a Moment Walk On
Now, in almost 25 years (yes, kids, Parallel Lines was released in 1978), will those three songs of U2's still hold up as well as these? I say no. U2's best stuff came off of Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree. This album was tepid and soft. Blondie's stuff from Parallel Lines sounds like it just came out of the studio yesterday. It is still as fresh as it was in the 70's.
Anyway, I'm just ranting here. I think Blondie is one of the most underrated bands of all time and it irritates me that they still don't get the respect they deserve.
Hail to the Redskins! Patrick Ramsey will own you! Oh, who am I kidding...
Going on just two bands I'm big fans of, but if you include Van Halen on the list, how could 1984 not be on there? Also from the Beastie Boys you got Paul's Boutique, which is the critics favorite, but personally--and my friends who are Beastie Boys fans agree--Check Your Head > Ill Communications. Also noone has mentioned that THE EMINEM SHOW is on a list of top 500 albums. That was nothing more than a medicore album and nowhere near as good as his past two (and even either of those on the list is arguable).

Question. Top 500 in terms of what really. What you like? That were importan and lead to something or were influential? In terms of influence: John Fahey's "Bilnd Joe Death, early Chuck Berry, Early Sun records by Presley, Cash, and Co. One of the most influential single songs of all time was The Kinks "You Really Got Me". Not to mention the Chess blues that influence Beck, Page, Clapton who in turn influenced the next generation. In terms of vocals and don't laugh Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Jordan, and even Cab Calloway. And a direct important ancestor of Rock was believe it or not Benny Goodman. These lists are fun but they ofetn show the ignorance of the lister, myself included. I have almost zero knowledge of bands past the early '90's
I was kind of surprised there was no Sabbath in the top 100 IIRC. Considering they were pretty influential, I am surprised Paranoid wasnt up there. Pink Floyd holding off until 43 was absurd. I am not a Beatles fan, but I understand they were influential and very popular, but they had a few too many albums near the top. When you have several in front of Elvis, it isnt right. Also surprised Metallica wasn't in the top 100, I know that some people aren't big fans now due to the whole music download thing, but they did do some great work. Led Zeppelin IV not in the top 50 is ridiculous as that is my favorite album, and has some of their most popular songs on it (Stairway for instance). Jimi Hendrix Are ou Experienced is a top 10 album and could easily have taken the spot of some of those Beatles albums. Not a horrible list, but there were some glaring ommissions.

Look at me! Writing a concert review in the airport! The future has arrived. I am traveling with a netbook, a BlackBerry, an iPod, and a Nintendo DSi. All that, and instead of having fun, I am writing a concert review for you. What a nice guy I am.
