The race year traditionally begins with the 24 Hours of Daytona. This is an American Endurance race on the road course at Daytona. The Grand Am series hosts the event, with 3 classes of cars running.
NASCAR fans will see AJ Allmendinger defending last year's win, along with Jamie McMurray, Juan Pablo Montoya, Marcos Ambrose, and Michael Waltrip all with entries as well.
The big storyline is Scott Pruett getting the pole and going for a 5th win in the race. This year, he is on the same team as Juan Pablo Montoya, which might hurt his chances. Montoya has been very aggressive in the race in years past, and is basically the designated villain for the race.
I loved road racing since my childhood, and plan on watching this for a good portion of the day, night, and next day. If you want to see a different breed of racing, turn it on at some point!
This is why I'm not surprised the U.S. didn't get the 2016 games. The U.S. has hosted four games in my lifetime: Lake Placid, LA, Atlanta, and Salt Lake City. The beach volleyball in 2016 will be legendary.
