| #3 Posted on 23.2.04 2215.28 | What is the history of ROH? I know what they are all about, showing matches with great workrate minus the ridiculous storyline segments, but how and why was the promotion created in the first place? What is the deal with their different titles and the whole ranking system? Thanks if you can help me out here | Brian P. Dermody

From their site.
1) A competitor is only allowed three rope breaks. Once that competitor uses his three rope breaks, his opponent does not have to release the hold if he reaches the ropes. This creates a lot of unique, interesting scenarios.
2) There will be a 20 count on the floor to insure that action stays in the ring.
3) No closed fists. If a competitor uses a closed fist, he will be issued a warning. Every closed fist punch thrown after that will result in a penalty of one rope break. If the competitor has no rope breaks left, he will be disqualified. This will insure that brawling stays out of the Pure Wrestling title matches. ---- The #1 Contender's Trophy has always been used to determine who gets World Title shots. Now the #1 Contender's Trophy Holder will get the option to petition ROH officials for either a World Title or Pure Title shot. This means that the #1 Contender's Trophy Holder is guaranteed a shot at either belt as long as he retains the Trophy. ROH officials reserve the right to tell the Trophy Holder what belt he will challenge for, but the Trophy Holder can request a shot at either belt and have his case heard. ----
And they're building a storyline where Samoa Joe says his title is the only one worth anything, where AJ Styles wants to make the PW Title the prestigious one.
It's pretty boss, IMHO.

Promotion was originally created by Rob Feinstein to make up for the void left in business when ECW died. It has got a lot more popular since then, though, and has become a lot more than just a 300 people attendance indy.
