You know, I think the board could use a little more indy wrestling and ROH talk. Indy wrestling, places like ROH and PWG are feds I've sort of found recently and fallen in love with. So instead of continually bitching about WWE, I'd just like to talk about ROH some.

From the ROHWrestling forums:

    11/4 ROH Detroit Debut
BJ Whitmer def. Delirious w/ a Wrist Clutch Exploder

Davey Andrews def. Shane Hagadorn & Derrick Dempsey to win the top of the class trophy after Dempsey tapped to a modified adominal stretch.

Nigel McGuinness def. Claudio Castagnoli by tossing Claudio the iron and playing dead ala Eddie Guerruro and Sinclair DQing Claudio. Crowd chanted BS loudly.

Roderick Strong & Jack Evans def. Sal Rinauro $ Chad Collyer w/ a Phoenix Splash Skipping a Generation on Rinauro

Christopher Daniels def. Samoa Joe, Scrap Iron Adam Pearce, and Jimmy Jacobs in a four corner survival match w/ the Angels Wings on Joe. Cornette came out after Cabana and Homicide killed each other and put Pearce and Jacobs in.

Daizee Haze def. Allison Danger for the after intermission match.

Austin Aries def. Alex Shelley w/ a rollup. Post-match Rave, Abyss, Shelley, and Nana beat on Aries until Sydal, Styles, and Haze run down. Shelley and Aries brawled to the back.

AJ Styles & Matt Sydal def. Jimmy Rave & Abyss w/ a Moonsault Belly to Belly on Rave by Sydal. Rave is covered pre-match by toilet paper. Someone screwed up and hit AJ, who took it and creamed the guy with it.

Bryan Danielson def. Chris Sabin w/ a Stronghold. Danielson kept doing backbreakers and calling himself the Messiah of the Backbreaker.

From what I'm hearing, Joe went postal on the fan that was throwing toilet paper at AJ. These incidents seem to happen a lot lately. I wonder if they could ever make a gimmick out of this with Joe...but to put it simply, don't fuck with a 280 lb Samoan.

ROH is really nailing it with the development of the Strong/Danielson feud. I think its going to end up being one of their all time classic feuds. Danielson is also developing into a fantastic heel.

This show sounded awesome, and I'm dying to see Danielson vs. Sabin for the first time.

Also from the ROH forums:

    11/5 show

It's very loud in the building so it's hard to hear him over the phone. I had luck last week with Lurker Greg. These are you intrinsic results.

    Showcase:
    1) Lacey pinned Sara Del Rey via rollup for SHIMMER. Was a pretty good match that went about ten minutes.

    Main Show:
    1) STEELIRIOUS of ACE STEEL & DELIRIOUS v. CHAD COLLYER & NIGEL MCGUINNESS - Ace pinned Nigel after Collyer hit Nigel with a chairshot on accident.

    2) SAL RINAURO v. JIMMY JACOBS - Jacobs over Sal with Contra Code. A lot of HUSSing for Jimmy, and it's making him furious and working the crowd. Lacey is a huge asset and helping out Jacobs.

Cornette is in the ring now, I can't hear anything being said or going on. Echo from speakers is making it impossible to hear what's happening or being said. Cornette/Watts talking about old times of wrestling, Adam Pearce is trying to cut him down and talk about new generation, asking for a chance. Watts gets to make the match, and he has someone in mind to make Chicago happy. Adam has a match, not being said against whom though.

    3) CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI v. BJ WHITMER - BJ pins CC with a huge exploder after about 17 minutes. Crowd has been hot all night.

    4) SAMOA JOE v. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS - Joe pins Daniels with Musclebuster after 44 minutes. nogimmick is losing his voice, everything sounds really scratchy. Sounded like it was an amazing match.

    5) COLT CABANA v. HOMICIDE - Went to a no contest. They were throwing chairs into the ring and at one another. The ref was tossed out as result by Homicide. 'Cide and Smokes then duct-taped Colt to turnbuckle, forked him, Ace came out and ran off 'Cide and
    Smokes.

    INTERMISSION

    6) ADAM PEARCE v. DAVEY ANDREWS - Adam wins with a piledriver after about 6 minutes. Crowd not too much into it, but then considering the previous matches and intermission, this is seemingly forgettable.

    7) ROH WORLD TITLE RE-MATCH: BRYAN DANIELSON (C) v. RODERICK STRONG - 60 minute time limit. Danielson reversed a backbreaker into chickenwing and got the tapout at around 57 min. Chops were brutal, everything was sweet, crowd ate up every little thing. Amazing, amazing match. Don't cha wish you were in Chitown?

    8) 8 man tag team WARFARE! - GENERATION NEXT PLUS 1 of AUSTIN ARIES, JACK EVANS, MATT SYDAL, and AJ STYLES v. THE EMBASSY of JIMMY RAVE, ALEX SHELLEY, ABYSS, and PRINCE NANA - Daizee Haze turned heel, joining the Embassy after low-blowing Aries and Sydal. Aries german suplexed Abyss through a table. Jimmy Rave pinned Aries after hitting him with his new finisher, a Pedigree.

Crowd about 900-950. Tickets on sale now for return in March. MOTN is tie between Strong/Danielson & Daniels/Joe.

Holy fucking crap in a hat! A 45 minute Joe/Daniels match and a one hour Strong/Danielson world title match? ROH f'n rocks! I think this is an advantage for ROH not having a TV deal or huge distribution. It lets them put on shows like this with no limits or restrictions.

And look at the attendance, very comparable to what TNA's drawing in the Impact zone.

Question for the ROH fans, what's the typical amount of time it takes for a show to be put on DVD/VHS? I'd love to buy these 2 shows in particular and one other using the buy 3 get 1 free deal, but I think that might be ending soon.

*Daniels/Joe supposedly went a lot shorter then 44 minutes but people are still saying it was awesome.

*Shows usually take about a month to come out on VHS and about a month and a half for DVD.

Scott was in Chicago Rdige. I was too, though I didn't write up as much about it.

If it hadn't been for the Daniels/Joe match (unlikely to be 44), the first half of the show would've been awful medicore. The Title match and the 8 Man War were good, but I have an (unfair?) expectation of ROH shows being a meaningful Event. The only Events which happened here were Daizee turning heel and Strong becoming a stronger challenger, which is a bit off a dropoff from a Matt Hardy and C.M. Punk's final ROH appearances last time thru. I kinda figured as much when I saw the lineup, so I can't even say it was a disappiontment - it just wasn't up to the level of previous shows in Chicago Ridge, I think.

Whatever Samoa Joe thing happened wasn't visible from where I was standing at the end of the show, and the crowd at large didn't react like something crazy was going on - they were cheering the main event faces recover in the ring as I left. Not saying it didn't happen, but it's probably not the big juicy deal it sounds like in these reports.

And look at the attendance, very comparable to what TNA's drawing in the Impact zone.

The vital difference is TNA's fans are getting in free (except for PPVs? I forget what the deal is there), and ROH is charging $20 for GA. ROH is doing much better.

I'm very confused by the Claudio job to BJ. Claudio Castagnoli is one of the brighter stars in ROH, and here he jobs to BJ Whitmer, a guy who hasn't really done much that I've seen. I can understand the Nigel/Claudio match from 11/4 with Nigel cheating~! to win, but BJ?

And after seeing James Gibson put over Roderick Strong rather...um...strongly in Philly, I am excited to see him getting a title match and acquitting himself nicely against AmDrag.

I'm saddened that ROH won't be back to Philly until Spring of '06.

TNA charged for Bound For Glory to get into the fanfest the day before and to get a guaranteed seat for the show.
Other than that, I believe admission to all the PPV's and tapings are free.

But excellent point about ROH drawing paid crowds.

And since you were there, as far as ROH shows would you recommend a DVD/VHS purchase on Joe/Daniels, Strong/Danielson, and 8 man war alone?
