JayJayDean and TheCow have pretty much summed up what I was thinking. Though......

skorpio17 you are not understanding what my points were. I find it hard to compare pitchers from different eras. The game changes so much, size of players, park size, diet, social landscape, training, etiquette, etc. etc. You even have a World War that took players away from the game! I think players should only be compared with players that played around the same time. And seeing a pitcher live or alot of film of them leaves a huge impact that helps with the numbers.

Roger is a great pitcher, but is an asshole of a person. It doesn't take away from how good he is, but it makes me not like him or care. Like when he talks to the press and spouts off ridiculous statements were he comes off as someone who thinks he's bigger than baseball!

No no-no either, I was surprised at that especially since he faces Tampa Bay and Detroit every year.

(Now that he is a Yankee, my favorite team) I can say I like Clemens. When he was in Boston, I hated him. Calling him the best pitcher ever is ignorant. He wasnt even the best pitcher of his supposed greatest decade, Jack Morris gets that nod (on some TERRIBLE Detroit teams).

I dont care if he is an asshole in his personal life. I dont watch baseball because I want to see nice people play sports. I watch to enjoy the athletic abilities of professional athelets. And, he is one of the best I have ever, EVER seen.

Two things:

1) Clemens is totally in the right on the Hall issue. Your career, your choice of hat. Period. If Clemens wants a Yankee hat, so be it. He's done enough in four-plus years as a Yankee to justify it.

2) I know how bitter and angry you Red Sox fans can get about Clemens wearing pinstripes and how he hates your guts. Just remember... YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO FEEL THAT WAY. The only person you have the right to blame for Clemens being where and feeling the way he is today is your ballclub's idiot former-GM, Duquette. The guy had the nerve to say that Clemens was in "the twilight of his career" - meanwhile, Clemens is closing out his last Boston season by matching his single-game strikeout record. Ye gods.

And as for best pitcher ever: Mathewson. And no one will ever touch him.

*sigh*

Re: the hat issue

The two biggest things I've heard supporting the "B" on Roger's HoF plaque: 1. The HoF has a goal of being accurate to HISTORY. Most of Clemens' accomplishments (save the World Series wins and his 300th win) came with Boston, and 2. No pitcher has ever been the career win leader for a franchise and gone into the HoF wearing another team's cap, except Cy Young, and he was the leading winner for TWO teams, so one had to lose out. If Roger pitches until he's 45 maybe he can consider going in as a Yankee, but I think it's going to be a "B" on the cap. (Though I like the idea of Tim Keown on espn.com, who said the only cap Roger should wear in the HoF is a dunce cap.)

Re: bitter Red Sox fans and their right to hate Clemens

Roger was out-of-shape (like Lennox Lewis-out-of-shape) for much of the end of his tenure in Boston and had a 40-39 record. I'd bet that if he pitched in his last two years in Boston like he did in his two years in Toronto he would still be on the Red Sox right now. I think lacking commitment to performing his best and lacking the professionalism to turn it around until he was "slighted" by Duquette makes Red Sox fans' feelings about Clemens well-deserved and totally justified.

I really don't care about the hat thing, they might as well do a split or no emblem cap.

With a poor bullpen leading up to Papelbon and a line-up that falls off the end of the Earth after the 6 hole, I don't see how the Red Sox finish higher than 3rd, 4th if the Blue Jays ever figure out how to string wins together.
