Am I the only person left watching NWA on a regular basis?

Piper's showing up caught me completely off guard. As long as he keeps himself behind the microphone and out of the ring, it's fine with me. He cuts a great promo.

The Vince Russo show however has been kicked into overdrive. Harris Brothers are getting a push thanks to their defiance of authority. BAH GAWD THEY'RE THE SECOND AND THIRD COMINGS OF STONE COLD!

I'm not thrilled about this Russo stuff, but they're doing it right if they MUST go about it... Russo's being portrayed as the over-the-top King Of Sportz Entertainment. As long as it ENDS with wrestling overcoming Sportz Entertainment, and stupid shit like non-wrestlers holding major titles doesn't begin, then why not?

It's certainly got people TALKING about it. Which at this point IS better than nothing.

The wrestling remains good, so thankfully it hasn't been taken away from us.....yet.

I'm still wondering who in the blue hell this Athena chick is and why she's so damn important. I've seen these fucking "ATHENA" signs all over the shows, and I kept thinking that maybe she was some awesome Tennessee indy wrestler.

But she's the fucking RING GIRL?! What the hell?

Yep Athena is a indy manager and has gone through the many terrible Bert Prentice promotions. Bert Prentice has a talent exchange going on with NWA:TNA and he hosts the Saturday morning show with Jeremy Borash.

I've stopped getting it. I probably will pick it up again at some point in the future, but the last one I got was the one where Russo was Mr. Wrestling III.

Granted, it's more likley due to the fact that I've been working late recently than the fact that Russo was there.

Your analogy is similar to:

"They already have cars that you can drive, why not blenders?"
"I can already write with my hands, why not my pancreas?"
"They already have beef that I can eat, why not granite?"

-- my new favorite quote from Slashdot comments.

Well, you missed Roddy Piper saying that Russo killed Owen, the Harris brothers beating up the ring girl, and "Not The Road Dogg" B.G. James turning heel and siding with Russo. Oh, and Paul Bearer showed up on the stage at the very end.

Did Jerry Jarrett and Vince Russo switch on WWE and see Scott Steiner and then decide:

"Hey, we need an incoherant, rambling idiot of our own! Let's call Piper!"

It could have been worse.

At least they didn't say "Hey, let's call Warrior!"...

...yet.

Utilizing the belief system and work ethic (Mattributes) of THE Matt Hardy to create a better life for yourself by fulfilling your goals and dreams. Mattitude is a quality that can help anyone -- regardless of background or past -- to achieve success. You just have to make it a lifestyle, a mindset, a religion. Mattitude, is something that can not be taught or learned. Mattitude is something that burns within. In the ring, Mattitude is the intangible, the x-factor, that gives me an advantage over everyone else.

The one thing I enjoy about NWA TNA is Meltzer's report. Tonight's one is hilarious.

I wonder what Bret Hart thinks about Piper's comments.

Good Lord, no. Where did that come from? Russo said that Piper would burn in hell or using Owen's death to sell his book.

In any case, the whole thing was sordid and repulsive and drained me of any enthusiasm for the rest of the show (another highpoint of which was Face tag team "America's Most Wanted" beating up a skinny young woman in a bullrope match and hitting her with consecutive finishers, including their doubleteam finisher).

I've bought every show thus far, but Russo's presence is destroying it very very quickly.

At this point though, Warrior might be enough of a car wreck to bring in that it would fall into the stupid funny category. All having Piper/Russo does is remind everyone of the idiotic Russo the First Error in WCW.

I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.

So far X-Pac is looking like a pretty smart man.

$10 bucks for bad interviews, Harris Twins and bad angles isn't going to last very long.

Russo's problem seems to be that he just won't change. The man is stuck in the 1990's. His angles and ideas haven't changed in the last 8 or so years.

While I admit I am not a big fan of the angle, and nothing good has come of Roddy Piper being near a microphone in the last 6 years or so, I still enjoyed last night's show for one reason. Don West. I know it might be odd to say, but more and more I am enjoying the odd blend of common fan realism and insane hucksterism he brings to the announce table. Last night I thought he did a really good job of selling the whole Piper-Russo angle, getting over the idea that the average person is supposed to be disgusted with Russo and his antics. The lack of a heel in the booth is refreshing, and with Don knowing his job is not to be the main wrestling voice but the mouthpiece for the average fan I am really liking Tenay/West as much as any team in the business, and far more than JR/Lawler.

One would think that even if she is a heel, beating up a woman shouldn't be getting face heat, should it?

I think the Dudleyz would probably disagree with you, since powerbombing defenseless women through tables essentially pushed them into being faces.
