I enjoyed the full performance with INXS, Dave Navarro, and the final five on "Us". The song is decent, with a rocking chorus. Vocally, I'd like to hear Suzie or JD do that on their own. From watching the performance with the band, it seemed like Marty was the odd man out, style-wise. Mig and JD seemed to blend best with the energy of INXS.

The bottom three-I keep getting frustrated at Mig lucking out and avoiding the bottom three despite his wailing and sappy ballads. If INXS wanted to hire Richard Marx, I'm sure he's available.

Jordis was the obvious choice to go-ever since hitting the peak of the show with "The Man Who Sold the World", she has not been able to keep up, although her "Imagine" was powerful. I still shudder over her lounge version of "Layla". But she does have a future in the industry, what with that incredible voice.

JD was perfectly suited for "Mystify". I really hope he doesn't win, because I think he'd be more successful striking out on his own. In true rockstar fashion, he should withdraw from the competition on the final show.

I really don't know how it'll go next week. I'm fairly sure INXS has an idea of who they want and don't want, so that will decide fourth place.

I am begging Mig to BOMB this week. He looked completely crushed that he was not in the bottom three. He knew JD was better and he now knows that all of Australia is voting for him based on him being Australian. I fully expect him to tank and to be the next gone. Funny thing was, he was my pick to win it all. But much like Jordis did, I expect his confidence to sag and to wind up not being able to keep up with Marty and JD vocally. Suzie will stay only because it is good for business to have a girl in the final three. But make no mistake, she will never win.

In what might appear to be a complete reversal of my position, I'm rooting for JD to get the job. After last night's interviews, I'm much less enthusiastic about the band members. So, good -- Y'all take JD's "edginess", perpetually flat top-end & powerless bottom range. And let Suzie, Mig & Marty all leverage this showcase to get much *better* gigs that utilise their talents much better than INXS Part 2 ever would.

Marty's smart & got a vision -- if he got the gig, he'd be perpetually kicking a dead whale up the beach trying to get the existing band convinced of anything. And his voice & style are so much better suited to a new Second Wave from Seattle band. (That super-intense, controlled/crazed style he does is really good, & totally unsuited to what the boys want & would go for.)

Suzie does have an excellent voice, & can cover a huge variety of material extremely well. If she got the gig, she'd be so limited in what she could do with this group, it'd be a terrible waste.

I think the one that pissed me of the most was their comments about Mig. Their whining about him being a good guy was just dumb. But the reprise of the bitching about too much theatre experience (See also Ty, early on, which torqued me off then.) is totally stupid. Why the hell are they having them do Queen songs if they're unhappy with theatrical?!?!? Dumb-dumb-dumb!

(And y'all thought I'd lost interest & wandered off. :-) )

Good to have you back emma!

I feel the same way but feel after all si said and done, it will be Mig. They do not trust JD as the loose cannon, Marty is going to be too confrontational in his vision of where the band should go and Suzie is too stupid to lead this band. I have never seen someone fumble over the English language so consistenly and so badly as Suzie. It is painful to listen to hear speak. She needs to be a solo artist and go more the pop/rock route.

Mig is perfect for INXS Part II. Make no bones about it, this is a short term gig. One, maybe two, albums and a world tour. These guys look like they have no interest in the non-stop touring and putting in time in the studio. So Mig, who is a nice guy and will not rock the boat, is perfect for them. Also, if they are ever going to hit big, it will be in Australia and have a Aussie as the lead singer will make it ever better.

Marty and JD have bright futures ahead of them. I loved Pretty Vegas and Trees and look forward to downloading them on my iPod. Both will make their mark and are better off NOT in INXS.

I look forward to the concert tomorrow. JD will do fine and I expect a nice twist to Money. Creep is perfect for Marty. Mig will do OK to the Seal song (Kiss from a Rose?)but I am curious to see how he does with Paint it Black. Not really his style. Did not get to see what Suzie is singing.

I hope Suzie leaves this week. A three way sing off between the guys would be stellar.

UPDATED 9/14 - I thought JD rocked last night and gave a great performance. Marty was real good too but I would have preferred a rocked out version of Trees instead of acoustic. It was still good though. Suzie was so off she sounded horrible. I thought she butchered both songs and even came in early TWICE on Interstate Love Song. Yikes. Mig did not bomb as badm but I thought Paint it Black was awful. Too theatircal. The more I think about it, the more I feel it may be Marty or JD. Those are the only two I would pay to see front INXS.

UPDATED 9/15 - Well off goes Suzie and I for one am glad. There was no way she was going to win so it is better to not have her as a token woman in the finals.

The final three are Mig, JD and Marty, which is the righ way to go. It will be interesting to see what ahppens Tuesday. I am hoping that they each have to sing two INXS songs and then the band will decide from there. Either way, it should be good and I for one am ready for this to end!

I was pretty sure they were going to dump Marty this week, but (if we believe the people's voting is real -- too much pro wrestling makes one a skeptic?) since they didn't have that option, Suzie was next in line. That's fine -- Dave is so in love with her, he'll personally get her a solo deal! :-)

Meanwhile, I didn't think Mig was as strong on Tuesday as he usually is. To the point of wondering if he backed off just a teeny bit so he wouldn't be the only one never to have been in the bottom three.

I wish they hadn't mentioned that JD was once an Elvis impersonator. I'm curious whether I'd still get the "he's channelling Elvis again" vibe if I didn't have that planted in my brain.

So, we'll see what happens on Tuesday.

Just watched the Sunday show. Interesting song selections for the finale show! In case we all haven't seen it, let's do this:

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read

Mig's doing "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the finale show! Ooooooh! I wasn't overly excited about Suzie's version of it, & Mig presumably can blow the roof off with it. Innnnteresting.

JD with "You Can't Always Get What You Want" ... I can't see it being that spectacular, but we'll see.

Marty landed on Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here", didn't he? Which he'd done before, IIRC. He did it well, f'r sher.

I'm *very* amused that not one of them selected an INXS song -- they were in the catalog, weren't they?

I don't think they said what else they're doing besides the selected songs. Maybe the ones that they co-wrote in the Workshop? Maybe the INXS song(s) of the band's choice?

We'll see. (BTW, I'm predicting JD at this point. But I'm often bad at predictions. :-) )

emma,

I am not sure if they had the choice of an INXS song or not, but they all are singing the original song they collabarated with INXS on earlier in the show.

Mig taking Bohemian Rhapsody was stupid. Suzie got the (underserved) encore with that so he will have to be spectacular to make it more memorable.

Marty taking Wish You Were Here is a case of playing it safe (as is Mig since he was in "We Will Rock YOu"). He should have taken another song he hadn't done yet.

JD taking the Stones was a great move. It is a song he can totally pull off and he has not sung it before. It shows a man willing to take a chance on showcase himself even more.

It will really come down to the original song and this is where JD and Marty will excel. Who they choose will be based on the the following:

Long term career moving in a new direction: Marty
Short term (1/2 CDs and a world tour): Mig
A decent comeback (5 years) and some CDs: JD

I am sticking with Mig but am feeling JD. Anyway, if it is Mig, INXS will never see my concert money. I would only pay to see JD.

Oooh, I liked that INXS song-looking forward to hear each person's version of it.

I'm fairly sure the band decided weeks ago who they'd like best as their lead singer. Me, I think it'll be Mig. I am a big JD fan as well, but I'd prefer him to go his own way.

Should be a fun show tonight. Despite my initial misgivings about the premise of the show-"Our lead singer committed suicide, let's have a reality show to replace him"-it's been an awesome showcase of talent and perhaps launched more than a couple of careers.

Goon,

Agreed. I can see the following people having successful careers:

Marty
JD
Mig (w. INXS. if not, then Broadway)
Suzie (more pop than rock though)
Deanna
Ty
Brandon (in a southern rock band like Black Crowes)

Should be a great show tonight and the best part is not knowing how they will go. Really, any of them could win, but again, I will stick with Mig due to his Australian roots and the fact that he will not rock the boat.

I hope you accidentally left Jordis off of your list. It'd be a shame not to hear that voice again.

(As long as she's not singing "Layla".)

Complete oversight on my part. I knew I was missing someone. Actually, three of her songs were among my tem favorites this year:

Baba O'Reilly
Heart Shaped Box
Man Who Sold the World

If I had to put together the RockStar; INXS CD, they would be on it. And I did see the lineup of songs and it would not make me run out and buy it. If they needed 17 tracks, take the three above and add (no originals as they would be new singals):

Maggie Mae - Ty
Cult of Personality - Ty
California Dreaming - JD
Mr. Brightside - Marty
Ooops...I Did It Again - Marty
Walk This Way - Mig
I'm The Only One - Deanna
Lithium - Marty
Imagine - Jordis
Losing My Religion - Suzie
The Letter - JD
Somebody Told Me - Ty
Hand In my Pocket - JD
Proud Mary - Ty w/ Suzie, Deanna and Jordis

This is a CD I would buy.

UPDATED 9/22

JD is your new lead singer of INXS. Watching Mig butcher Bohemian Rhaposdy was painful last night. Suzie's version was much better and I thought her version was lacking. Marty was good on Wish You Were Here, but been there done that. I liked, not loved JD's Can;t Always Get Whay You Want and give him credit for being the only one to step outside the comfort zone.

Mig was first to leave and it was the right decision. He is was too theatrical and needs to get his ass to NYC and get on Broadway. He will thrive here.

Marty sang "Don't Change" with INXS and I thought right there that there is no way JD loses. Marty just does not have the voice to pull off INXS. He is a real good singer, just not for INXS. JD sang What You Need and I thought it was the best that anyone all season had sang and INXS song. The band picked JD, but in an unltra cool and very pmart move, told Marty that they want to talk to him about his band opening for INXS on their World Tour. Marty was psyched and I think he knows, along with the rest of us, that he will be a bigger star without INXS than with INXS.

So JD FOrtune is your new singer of INXS. The right choice was made. A few weeks ago I told my sister that JD would be the only one I would pay to see front INXS but I would go see Marty' band. She joked that Marty's band should open for INXS on their World Tour. I said I would definately pay to see that. Well, looks like I might be paying! Good show, good finale and there was talk of next season. If they do a second RockStar season, I hope it is Van Halen. That would be cool.

JD wins, and he was the right choice, IMHO.

He was one of the most bland performers of the crop, so he's perfect for the band.

Edited for my crappy typing.

What show were you watching? I thought he was magnetic and had a great stage presence. He worked well with the band (both House and INXS) and interacted with the audience. If you thought HE was bland, who did you think wasn't?

Hey! I got a prediction right! Yea, me!

I think Mig knew he wasn't getting the job, so he picked the song that he just most wanted to do for the big TV audience. I loved it, BTW.

If Marty didn't know beforehand, he had to know the instant they told them that he'd be doing "Don't Change" & that JD would be doing "What You Need". Watching Marty's "Don't Change", all I could think of was what a waste of his particular style & talents it would be for him to get that job. The tentative offer of opening for INXS on the tour is a damn fine consolation prize -- better for him than the actual gig would have been! (And if JD has any sort of rookie-rockstar meltdown on the road, they've got a pre-qualified understudy on hand. :-) )

JD really wants this, he does do a good job with their music, & he'll fit himself in with the band. His "What You Need" was definitely a very good performance. I think he was the right choice for the job.

So I'm happy all around. I wonder if I can pre-order Suzie & Deanna's CDs on Amazon yet? :-)
