How come when WM XX was coming around, this match wasn't mentioned as a possibility? It seems like the last "big money" match that the WWE hasn't beaten into the ground. I did hear somewhere that Rock hates Shawn Michaels, but I'm not sure if that just BS or not. I'd love to see this match, only to see HBK lose to the People's Elbow.

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

It probably wasn't mentioned because everyone knew Rock was working with Foley and HBK was in the title match in some form or another. That wouldn't be a bad idea at some point, maybe WM 21, but would require a pretty drastic shift in one of the guys' attitudes to get there. I don't see how you set up face vs. face with one guy who only pulls spot duty to stick up for his storyline buddies.

As an aside, no way Rock would win this match. Michaels is more or less full time and rarely jobs. Rock is a once-a-year guy who has been beaten by everyone from HHH to Al Snow and anyone in between.

According to Dave M, Rock has had his problems with Shawn Michaels. It goes back to 1997, when Rock was just getting started and Shawn was at his most obnoxious and disruptive. There was a feeling that Michaels and HHH were out to sabotage him so that HHH would make it to the top before Rock, since they were both viewed as the future. (This is also why Rock is a big Bret Hart fan, because apparently Bret looked out for him in '97 and told him not to listen to any "advice" he got from Shawn and Hunter.)

In 1999, with Rock now on top, Michaels was still obnoxious whenever he made his return cameos and was so unpopular with the locker room that, with the exception of his friends, no one wanted him brought back to TV. That culminated in Sept '99 when Michaels made some inflammatory comments on Byte This (I think about Steve Austin not dropping the belt to HHH among other things) and was taken off TV even though they just did a big angle turning him heel.

Then, after Michaels did the guest ref role for the Rock/HHH Iron Man match in 2000, he dissed the match and said something about how his was way better and these guys couldn't go for 60 minutes.

So Rock hasn't exactly been endeared to Shawn over the years, and has gone as far as to say he isn't interested in working with him. I think that was before Michaels' actual comeback, however, so it's possible that they're copacetic now and might do a match. But Shawn still wouldn't be on Rock's personal list of dream opponents to work a big match with like Flair and Hogan were and probably still are. Especially since Rock is around so infrequently that when he comes back, it's to work with people he really wants and likes to work with (Hogan, Austin, and Goldberg in 2003, Foley and Flair in 2004).

See, THIS would be a great reason alone to have the feud. The most engaging storylines are typically rooted in "real life" events/situations, even if they are somewhat embellished. Plus, Michaels would likely give him the best match on the Legends Circuit these days.

Speaking of HBK, and please forgive my empty brain, but did HBK and Kurt Angle ever match up? It struck me that it would be such a great personality conflict, yet I can't summon any memories of it happening.

I can see this working really well if it was Face Angle versus Heel HBK, but I can't see it being all that special if it were the other way around. Granted, the matches would be great either way, but the overall feud itself is what I was talking about.

No no no no no. How do you build that without gabbing on about five-year-old Byte This shows and "you stole my heat" dumbass shoot interviews and and other stupidity?

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

This is one of those feuds where "I'm better than you", "No, I'm better than YOU" "Ohno you din't" "Oh yes I did!" "Bring it, bitch!" "It's already been buh-roughten!"? could be the best course of action.

Sometimes, the simple route is the best route.

There are a lot of wrestlers that Michaels has never wrestled... Rock, Angle, Eddie (that would be one hell of a match), and I don't think that he's ever wrestled Kane in a 1-on-1 match.

I'm not saying they have to use the exact reasons or chain of events to describe why they don't like each other. Just build off the history that they've never seen eye to eye and Shawn's former relationship with HHH helped him climb to the top quickly because Shawn was champ at the time. From there, you can revise history a bit to coincide with Shawn's forced retirement and Rocky's rise to the top. (even though they're not too far apart) You can even show the old footage of Shawn chairing Rock when HHH won the title in 1999.

I'm not saying it's the greatest storyline ever, but it's a little more interesting than "I'm the Best... No, I'M the Best". Sometimes that's a great (read: easiest) way to jump start a feud, but we see it so often that it's almost formulaic.
