I've not really seen to much mentioned about the " Peoples Elbow " that DIDN'T EVEN CONNECT at X - 8 . Give me a break !

I've really only heard nothing but praise for the match in general , but would people let that shit slide if Hogan wasn't involved ?

Also , what about the spit punch that Hogan botched , I may have overlooked it , but I haven't seen anybody say anything about that , yet people were ready to persecute Nash when he couldn't make it over the top rope !

I have to admit that Hogans performance surprised even me , a card carrying member of the Hogan Haters Club , aside from the botched spit punch .

It just amazes me that the match could finish so weakly .
Maybe it was some sort of poetic justice for all those lame ass leg drops Hogan has been using over the years !
Really , it's got me thinking that maybe Rock and Hogan had it planned that way , just for the irony .

I didn't see Wrestlemania, but I'm trying to figure out how a People's Elbow that didn't connect would be Hogan's fault. Wouldn't Hogan be just sitting there, and isn't it up to the Rock to determine how close the elbow comes to contact? Maybe I'm just missing what you are trying to describe.

I think Rock was trying to be easy because of Hulk's reportedly injured ribs and just blew the whole move to shit.

I'm not saying it was Hogans fault , I'm just saying the fact that Hogan was involved and most everyone was so ga ga over the match , that it was really a weak ,weak finish and I've really heard no one comment on it .

Really though , after thinking about it , I do belive Hogan and Rock did the finish that way intentionally , once again just for the pure irony of it .

I have also heard that Hogan's ribs were injured, and the Rock was trying to take it wasy on him. It did miss by a mile, though, but I don't think it detracted from the quality of the match.

Yeah, boy, a fake-looking move in fake wrestling really shatters the illusion we all have.

The point is...who cares?

the match was alright - it was the handshake / posing ritual that blew it off the charts for me.

rock was just super-excited to be there. he sold hogan like a monster. iirc, he started taking it easy on hogan after hulk fucked up that kick in the corner. it seemed like there was a lot of conversation going on between them after that. (ie: lingering by hulk's head after a pinfall attempt.)

i don't remember the spit punch thing though. do you mean when he blocked rock's?

I think it was a camera angle thing.

If they had shot it from a different angle, it would have looked good. I think Rock tried to "hit" the elbow into his side instead of straight down in case there was some contact with the ribs.

It probably looked better from the other side of the ring.

It might just be me, but as soon as Rock set up for the elbow (as in when he kicking his leg or whatever) Hogan started moving away. Hogan was sort of anticipating the blow and shifting away from it on his back. It may have been planned that way because of Hogans broken rib, or whatever it was. I think that is why it didn't look that great.

Ouch.

The point is you're nitpicking about one blown spot in an otherwise unbelieveably good match. It almost seems like you couldn't stand that people were praising a Hogan match so you went looking for something to complain about.

No , really there was more than one blown spot .
There was the spit punch where Hogan couldn't make it over the top rope , same as Nash except people weren't all over Hogan the way they were Nash .( check the thread " Has Kevin Nash done anything yet?" , I think it's on page 3 by now )Then there was a miscommunications on a whip into the corner .
Then of course there was the phantom elbow .

I guess the point I was trying to make was summed up best by ...

IMO , out of a 10 , I would give the actual match a 5 .
Once again , imo , we are suppose to have two of the best there is and they only deliver a decent match .

As far as me not being able to stand people praising a Hogan match , that's not really the case , it's more like people over praising the match . Actually , if you'll notice in the first post , I said Hogan performance even surprised me .

I also think what Guru Zimm said was a very valid point ...

Bottom line , I'm not trying to be disrespectful of anyone's opinion , but to me it was a good match not an
" unbelievably good match " .

I think the unbelievable part was that it was a good match, that many people didn't think Hogan had in him. Not unbelievable in the sense that it was a 5-star classic of Flair/Steamboat proportions.

Also it was probably a match that was helped by lower expectations.

Geez guys, what did you expect--an Akira Hokotu-Aja Kong type match that redefines non-stop action? Of maybe you want a Double Chris type fight to break out (so JR can say again, "They're slapping meat.") The point is all these people who say "Hogan ain't sh--" turned into little kids like the Pat Brady comic strip "Rose is Rose" at his mere presence.

Well if that doesn't sum up new Hogan lovers viewpoint I don't know what does.
