I just happened to click over to ABC's Nightline and they were doing a story on Rob Black and his legal battles. They were using it as a springboard to discuss AG John Ashcroft stepping up the prosecution of pornographers. I just caught the tail end of Black's interview (complete with video from after today's hearings in LA). He was talking about going to prison for, quote: "just making a movie". He seemed very freaked out and he's out on $100,000 bond. They then went to a Ted Koppel interview with the Federal Prosecutor who handles the pornography cases and they are going strong for a conviction. I apparantly missed most of the Rob Black story, but saw enough to get the feeling that he's going to prison. Koppel was pretty tough on the prosecutor, trying to get him to define the goals of the Ashcroft AG's office in these cases, but he was rebuffed. Maybe the west coast people can get the whole scoop at 11:35pm PST.

Knowing Ashcroft's views on things, how long before he comes after Vince next? I'm sure in his mind, most of the WWE's product is pornographic. And I'm sure he was especially offended by the necrophilia storyline, what having lost a governatorial election to a dead guy and all.

I watched the Nightline. They didn't mention anything about XPW, but just by living in Philly, reading the papers and the net, this is what I think happened.
XPW came here to do shows in an area that was already saturated with wrestling feds (CZW, ROH, Meanie's fed, etc.) They came in with the slogan that they were the fed that drove ECW out of business. It's not the truth, of course, but it sure isn't the way to win friends and influence people around here.
The other fed's didn't like it one bit, especially when XPW goes and puts their shows here on Channel 48 (which makes sense, because nobody around here really followed them. Heck, they were on the west coast, and we have enough stuff to watch here locally). Then they go a purchase an "exclusive contract" to use Viking Hall for at least a year (may have been more, I forget right now).
Also, this was right after the "Messiah" thing, where the kid got his thumb cut off by thugs alledgedly "hired" by Rob Black. Nothing was ever proven as far as I know, but it made "Urban Legend" status. Messiah was popular around here.
OK, so XPW gets here and gets to use the Bingo Hall and the other feds can't use it, so somebody decides to do a real smear campaign on XPW. They send out flyers all around the neighborhood saying that Black is gonna use the building not only for wrestling, but to store and possibly film his porno tapes there.
The neighbors and the South Philly politicians go bat-s**t.
Next thing you know, XPW loses the contract on the building, cancells shows, leaves Philly.
On the Nightline, the fed guy says that Extreme Associates is targetted because of people's complaints - they have e-mails to prove it.
The trial may be in Pittsburgh, but I bet those e-mails are from Philly.
Look, I don't like Black especially since the time he pulled the fake dog-eating thing, but like the porno-expert on Nightline said, this crap is stuff people watch in the privacy of their own homes. Fifty years and 2.5 mil seem a little extreme as a punishment.
And people may have a different opinion than mine, but I think their trouble is a direct result of trying to expand to Philly.

From RF? ;-)

There'll probably be something up later today in ABC's Nightline section (abcnews.go.com).

In fact, if the WWF is going to change the name of the July and December PPVs, why not throw history a bone and call them Bash At The Beach and Starrcade?
