I loved that he stayed involved in hockey after retiring, giving back to a sport that gave him so much.

| #3 Posted on 27.5.09 0107.05 | Instant Rating: 7.03 | I was reading on his Wikipedia entry that when he was playing with Vancouver, he requested a trade to an Eastern conference team so that he could be closer to his niece, who was going through a very serious illness, and her family in Toronto. The team traded him to Anaheim, which was geographically the furthest place from Toronto in the NHL, which caused him to retire.
You have to admire someone who puts his family above his career like that. Hope the GM or owner who made that decision feels plenty guilty now. | odessasteps
