No!!!!! I guess there will be no Gimme a Break reunion special then. RIP Nell, or as my dad called her back then, 'Big Momma'.

I apologize, and please don't shoot me, but this was a headline submitted about an article talking about Nell Carter's death:

Nell Carter given a permanant break.

OUCH (but funny).

The call is from heroism; will you accept the charges?

Thanks to the exciting non-finish to RR 2K3, I have nothing to write about Spf here. Please go about your business as usual. Thank you.

IIRC, and being the Gimme a Break fan that I am I think I do. Didn't the dad die (legit, not the Al Wilson type) in the final seasons of the show. So there might be a reunion just not here.

Cancer caught up with Dolph Sweet (Police Chief Carl Kanisky) on May 8th, 1985. After that, the family moved to New York, sharks were jumped, and the series ended. Additionally, John Hoyt ("Grandpa" Stanley Kanisky) died of lung cancer in 1991, Jane Dulo ("Grandma" Mildred Kanisky) died of complications from cardiac surgery in 1994, Howard Morton (Police Officer Ralph Simpson) was felled by a stroke in 1997, Peter Schrum (Uncle Ed Kanisky) was crushed in a near-fatal car crash in 2001, and Rosetta LeNoire (Mother Maybelle Harper) died of complications from diabetes in 2002. (The kids are alright, though.)

Kinda depressing, isn't it?

Steph

Not to beat on the dead, but I always got depressed watching friggin "Gimme A Break", and that theme song is one of those vomit-inducing tunes that sticks in my head for weeks and makes my ears bleed. I do remember her fondly in "Hair" and "Modern Problems", though.

I was thinking more along the lines of "Gimme a Breath."
Sorry...seriously, that's too bad. Hope her family's OK.

Which theme song? I think there were two different ones. The one that Nell Carter sings I think is the one you may be referring to which I feel is the worse of the two.

Waiting for the time when I can finally say that this has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way

Wasn't she up for the Mamma Morton role in Chicago last year. How long had she been sick?

I couldn't find verification on the "Chicago" rumor. She had been a diabetic for years, but was killed by a heart attack, not surprising due to her age and bodyweight.
