Eonline and Roddenberry.com are reporting the passing away of the Star Trek cast member and widow of ST originator Gene Roddenberry this morning. She was featured in The Original series pilot as the first officer and on the series itself as Nurse Chappel. She also played Deanna Troi's mother on TNG and was the voice of the computer on most incarnations of the franchise (which will be her last role in the upcoming movie.)
I am saddened, and I hate that I only now realize how much of an influence her various characters had me. (OST and ST:TNG were required viewing in my household growing up) She wasn't perfect, and her characters were never demure and her voice will always bring to mind good memories.
Last night's show was kind of crappy. And not in a good way, either. When it's cheesy and campy, it works. Last night's show didn't work for me. While I enjoyed Greg Kihn's music in the 80s, he has no business growling on my television now.
