According to the New York Times (nytimes.com), the noted filmmaker passed away this morning.

I have to admit that, aside from The Seventh Seal, most of his work didn't appeal to me in the way that Godard or Kurosawa Fellini's did, but I always was able to see the absolute mastery and artistry that he brought to everyone of his films. He was one of the true masters and will be sorely missed.
