Sad news from the hockey world today: Herb Brooks, coach of the "Miracle on Ice" 1980 gold medal USA hockey team (and last year's silver medalists in Salt Lake City), has died in a car crash. (

In addition to his storied NCAA and NHL career, he's enshrined in the United States ( and international Hockey Halls of Fame. had some nice things to say about him, too.

Herb Brooks was 66 years old...may he rest in peace.

Star wipe, and...we're out.
Thrillin' ain't easy.

Real tragic and sad news. I heard he turned down the Rangers head coaching position not so long ago so he can spend time with his family.

Pretty good coaching staff up there now.

I am sure Roger Neilson and Herb Brooks coaching some pretty good team right about now....

Sad summer for really is....

"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon.
Need I say more?"

Really? I always thought LaFontaine was Canadian (his name sounds French). A very strong and deserving group this year. No Joe Cullens in this group.
