Saw CRZ' post about Dominick Dunne and it occurred to me that no one had posted anything about another luminary who we lost today--songwriter Ellie Greenwich. You may not know her name, but you certainly know some of the songs she co-wrote (usually with her then-husband Jeff Barry, and sometimes with Phil Spector as well), including such gems as "Be My Baby", "Leader Of The Pack", "Hanky Panky", "Do Wah Diddy Diddy", "Baby I Love You", "River Deep Mountain High", "I Can Hear Music", and "Da Do Ron Ron". My personal favorite was the glorious "Then He Kissed Me". Not a bad life's work at all.

Some really amazing stuff came out of the Brill Building. Sometimes I'm sad that it's not around anymore.

Good book: Always Magic in the Air: The Bomp and Brilliance of the Brill Building Era (The W at Amazon)

Last 5 movies seen: The Hurt Locker **** - I Love You, Man ***1/2 - Watchmen **1/2 - The Great Buck Howard *** - Coraline ***1/2
