from meltzer:

King Curtis Iaukea, a legend in Hawaiian wrestling and a huge star in the 60s and 70s, passed away today in Honolulu. We have no other details other tha he passed away at home with his wife and two daughters.

Iaukea, a 300-pounder who was a football star at the University of California, headlined virtually everywhere in the world during his long career as a headliner, known for feuding in particular with Mark Lewin in a number of circuits and being in bloody matches.

He was a mentor to many in wrestling and was considered to be among the best interviews in the history of the business.

Iaukea, 73, had been ill for several months.

Sorry about the double post. Here's are more classics from The Master and the Dungeon of Doom.

Kamala joins the Dungeon of Doom:

The Master and The Shark are now reunited in Wrestling Heaven.

Not many people could phone it in from Wai ki ki beach in Florida in the 80's.
And, no one else could hit the tone for Kamala like him.

Something I wasn't aware of: Curtis Iaukea and former WCW Television and Cruiserweight Champion Prince Iaukea weren't related. Prince Iaukea's real name is Michael Haynes, and he was trained by Rico Federico and Dean Malenko. Later, Kevin Sullivan invited him to some TV tapings, and was so impressed by Haynes that he gave him the "Prince Iaukea" moniker, naming him after Curtis, a good friend of Sullivan's.

"Justice has a name. And the name it has, besides 'justice', is Captain Hammer."

Wow, I remember Dave Sullivan explaining who he was to me back in 94 or 95 at a kids club expo where he was doing an autograph signing. I had now clue who he was then & he explained he was very well known. That's why he got the "Dungeon Master" part. Memorable.

That's a sad thing ... I send my condolences to his family. Was she the one that suffered from the heart ailment (angina?) that Kurt is an awareness spokesman for?
