Clarence Clemons — the Big Man with the big horn — died today of complications from a stroke he suffered last weekend, said a source close to Bruce Springsteen. He was 69 years old.

If you know me, you know this is hitting me like the death of a favourite uncle. The version of If I Should Fall Behind where Clarence plays and sings was our wedding song, and I've been a devoted E Street disciple since the early 80s.

When the stroke happened earlier in the week, I had a bad feeling about it. I knew at the very least that we would never see him live again. But when I heard the news tonight, it hurt pretty badly.

Am I the only one who always got him confused with Clarence Carter? Odd too, as I am a pretty big Springsteen fan.

RIP

Two shows in four days! And by two bands I'd seen and enjoyed before. Could the Queens of the Stone Age live up to the Buck 65 show I'd seen earlier in the week? Nope. Nor did they live up to the last time I saw them. Actually, that's not fair.
