Today I set the all-time record by spending $28.00 to fill up my tiny Ford Ranger pick-up. TWENTY-EIGHT DOLLARS! If Mrs. JJD gets the SUV she wants I may have to find that second job. What's the deal with the gas prices lately? It seemed like they went up $.30 in a week! I heard that Phoenix was going through a real crisis but haven't really heard if prices are up nationwide or what the reasoning is behind the sudden spike.

I believe the problem in Phoenix was caused by some pipeline problems that made or is making gas refining in that area difficult.

The high prices in general are "supposedly" due to some "refinery and pipeline problems" in the midwest. Keep in mind I work for a giant petroleum company and thats the standard answer. Whether thats true or not- who knows.

All I know is I drive a Conversion Van and $1.82 for gas is not being kind on the wallet. That makes Ffej a sad panda.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

They're also blaming the blackout.

Of course, these are all just convenient excuses - the REAL reason is prices *always* go up right before Labor Day. ;-)

The price always goes up before Labor Day Z, but very rarely .27 cents in one day.

Ok, so Ted Williams is decapitated now? What will his son do next, sell him to the Japanese dog food company that bought former Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand?

Has anybody considered, y'know, Supply and Demand as the culprit? With less of a supply between the blackout and the pipeline problems, and more of a demand because of the long weekend, prices go up. Basic economics.

It was $1.72 PG on my way to the train this morning - I shudder to think what it will be when I get home tonight and have to fill up

Never use such basic logic again around here! Everyone knows it's those dastardly capitalist "big oil" guys screwing us over! Somehow, this is Cheney's fault!

The lowest I've seen in Fresno is $2.01 for regular. I feel bad for my muscle-car friends, who fill theirs up with premium.

Taken from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

Accusations have surfaced about Julian Tavarez doctoring the baseball with a foreign substance that he hides on the bill of his cap.

''It's ridiculous,'' Tavarez said. ''They checked my hat last year, too, and never found anything. They're just trying to get inside my head. But I won't let them.'' Just to demonstrate that no one was getting inside his head, Tavarez decided to ramble on for another hour or two and provide a quote of the year possibility. ''Some people like skinny women. I like fat women. Some people like young women. I like older women. Some people like poor women. I like rich women,'' Tavarez said. ''Some people like clean hats. I like my dirty hat.''

I blame the Stonecutters. They're the ones who hold back the electric car, not to mention making Steve Guttenberg a star.

Thank God I drive an Echo....one tank can last me a whole week of solid driving.

"When this bogus term alternative rock was being thrown at every '70s retro rehash folk group, we were challenging people to new sonic ideas. If some little snotty anarchist with an Apple Mac and an attitude thinks he invented dance music and the big rock group is coming into his territory, [that's] ridiculous." - Bono, 1997

MR BOFFO:I don't understand why this case was posted in a thread about FISA. Because it's one in the same - you don't need a government issued wire tap to feel / be guilty / paranoid. Anyone who thinks different is fooling themselves.
