I've heard somewhere (and I wish I could remember where) that Neil Patrick Harris is/was being considered for the role of Riddler. Pinch of salt firmly in grasp, that's not a bad shout at all.

I would just like to point out that JGL played Cobra Commander, not Dr. Mindbender even though if he played Mindbender it would have made more sense since he was a poor choice to play Cobra Commander silly helmet or not. In Inception, he was good in his role yet, it wasn't a part where I was totally blown away either. He had good moments, but not anything like "Oh shit, he can do big things."

Even if he does get the role it doesn't mean Riddler is going to be the only villain. I can easily Penquin, Cat-woman and even a back from the dead Two-Face to round out the movie. Riddler is not a big enough villain to carry into an entire film especially one with giant expectations and a number of plots to tie up. I am more curious who is going to be Superman then anything else right.

While it's fair to say that he had the origin story and the mob to flesh out Batman Begins, I think it's safe to say Nolan doesn't need to rest on the bad guy nearly as much as others might have to.

I think for this one, he might have to. He has used the mob for the last two films with success, can he really go to the well a third time with it? Joker's speech about changing things seems to spell out either a freaks vs. mob war or the freaks taking over since most of the mob heads were killed at the end of Dark Knight. There is also no Joker and possibly no Two-Face either, so he needs a big threat and Riddler is not that alone. He can be the master manipulator behind the scenes, but not someone like a Ras or Joker who can go toe to toe with him. Each movie has had two plus villains, I don't expect that to change let alone when we are getting to the B team territory of the Batman Rogues Gallery.

Mindbender, Cobra Commander or random Cobra, he sucked in it and I am not saying its all his fault, but really it was terrible.

Exactly. I don't get why everyone is on his nuts. If anyone from Inception is gonna be a breakout star, it is Tom Hardy. He was incredible in Bronson.

The first 2 Batmans with Nolan were well thought out and carefully planned. I have to believe a third film (which is normally the worst movie to any movie series) is going to have the same effect with Christoper Nolan at the reigns. Either way, I will be seeing the third installment of Batman Chris Nolan.

Exactly ... when I heard that Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker, I thought "WTF? The guy from 10 Things I Hate About You?"

And that seemed to turn out okay ...

Plus, as much as I would like to beat up the movie (500) Days of Summer, JoGoLev carved out this reputation in a bunch of movies from 2005-present like Brick and The Lookout, not from his performance in fucken GI Joe.

Again, I saw him Inception and most of his run on Third Rock from the Sun and I am not that impressed. He is a good actor that can do comedy well is what I get from his performances. As for GI Joe, he played an iconic villain regardless if its Dr.Mindbender or Cobra Commander which Riddler is. So, we are actually comparing apples to apples here. Even with the script as bad as it was, I didn't get any vibe of menace from him and when he was just the younger brother, it seemed to be played for comedy. Riddler can be funny, but in a more sarcastic way. Again, I think they need an actor who can give off a sense of real danger being around him like he could snap at any time. I just don't see it in this actor.

As somebody else pointed out, just about every complaint against Joseph Gordon-Levitt was also cited for Heath Ledger. The two actors are similar in that they are mostly known for silly, comedic roles (10 Things I Hate About You & 3rd Rock From The Sun) and each had a high profile, mainstream bomb (A Knight's Tale & GI Joe). But both have also showed their acting abilities (Brokeback Mountain & Brick).

Both are similar casting choices for villains and by now we should trust Chris Nolan to craft another great Batman film as he has yet to be wrong about pretty much anything to do with them yet.

Lloyd: When I met Mary, I got that old fashioned romantic feeling, where I'd do anything to bone her.
Harry: That's a special feeling.

JGL and Heath Ledger both played major roles in 10 Things I Hate About You so you could actually make an even more direct comparison between them. Besides, anyone who looks at work an actor did as a child and then says that work somehow represents his acting ability today when he's a 30-year-old man is really, really reaching.

I saw Sean Penn in Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street* and Tom Hanks on Bosom Buddies* and Sylvester Stallone in a porno* and they all suck.

*not really, but they're all on my list to watch

I don't have a dog in this race, but A Knight's Tale is AWESOME. I know that it is seriously rewatchable because my nephew plays it constantly.
