Rickey apparently is leery of putting his "John Henry" on a major league contract.

For more, HERE'S THE LINK (lest I be accused of plagarism):

"The best reason for committing loathsome & detestable acts -and let's face it, I am considerably something of an expert in the field - is purely for their own sake. Monetary gain is all very well, but it dilutes the tastes of wickedness to a lower level that is obtainable by anyone will an overdeveloped sense of avarice. True and baseless evil is as rare as the purest good - and we all know how rare THAT is." - Acheron Hades, THE EYRE AFFAIR by Jaspar Fforde

I dunno. Henderson is Henderson. I mean the numbers he put up are fantastic. If I remember he was consistent last year. I think they will come up with an agreeable deal. If not they will have lost a possibly good leadoff player. I dunno. I think the team could definitely benefit from signing him.

That being said i dont know if i like the idea of Ricky being so vocal about his complaints for his contract status. Oh well. Part of business i guess.

Well, ESPN is reporting that he has signed, so let this please be the last semi-controversy to come out of Boston until the All-Star Break at least.

An interesting Rickey Henderson side note that Jim Caple pointed out in his latest column at espn.com.....Rickey Henderson has more stolen bases since 1979 (1,395) than the Red Sox (1,382).

There's nothing here that says that this isn't just a short-term deal that buys out his remaining arbitration years. It could well be something that they agree to now while trying to lock him up for the real long haul.
