On this week's WWE BackDoor, the This Week In Sports Entertainment block lists the following info:

10/04/1981: Sgt. Slaughter defeats Rick Steamboat to win the WCW Championship. The match was the final of a tournament in Charlotte, N.C. The title had been stripped from an injured Wahoo McDaniel.

WCW? When did the WWE start editing references to the NWA? Is this to spite TNA?

*pause to look*

After further review, they mean the U.S. Title.

EDIT: Grim may have beaten me to the punch but I brought the linkage, though. :)

Sigh... the lineages will become so muddled that it's only a matter of time until Lou Thesz will be immortalized as a former Hardcore Champion.

I think he teamed with Regal, and was the right hand man for Eric Bischoff. Morley was Bischoff`s "Chief Of Staff", and later on he became co-tag champ with Lance Storm because Regal was ill. There.
