If you'll remember, on 4/18/02 I (and several other people) wrote a list of predictions for the following two years. “What will the WWF be like in two years?”
So far, one of my predictions has come true, while a second one is looking very favorable. Last night, when Brock Lesnar won the WWE Undisputed Title, it fulfilled my prediction that he would do so by April 2004.
I also predicted that by this time, Steve Austin would either be out of (what was then) the WWF or on his way out. Well, he's currently out. He might yet be back, and this might yet all still be an angle between him and WWE, but if his current status is permanent, that'll be a second correct prediction.
The other ones I made that have yet to come true:By 2004, one or more of the Hardy Boys will be a main-event singles star. Probably Jeff because he’s crazy, even though Matt is better.
Hasn't happened yet, although Jeff recently made history by competing for five different titles on five consecutive RAWs, including the Undisputed Title. But I wouldn't go so far as to call either Hardy a main-event singles star yet. I still think this could happen, though.Bill Goldberg will not have wrestled for the WWF between now and 2004.
Eh. This seems more likely to be proven wrong with each passing month. WWE seems to have some serious interest in Goldberg, but we'll have to see whether or not the feeling is mutual. And even if it is, is Vince willing to pay a shitload of money to get him? Goldberg was
over as a WCW main-eventer (sorry, but it's true) yet I don't think signing him would be a good idea.Low Ki’ will be a star in the WWF, perhaps in the cruiserweight division.
Whooo. One can only hope. That would truly be the shit.Kane will still be around, and probably be a bigger star than he is now.
Well... kind of hard to tell if this one's going to happen until '04, right? LOL...Rob Van Dam will have won the WWF Championship.
Well... he has an unofficial, overturned reign to his credit (making one for RVD, one for Jericho and two
for Benoit) but he has yet to win the title officially. I still think this one will happen sometime between now and '04.At least three of the McMahons will have an important role to play in storylines (most likely Vince, Shane and Stephanie).
Ha! Yeah, I still think that even two years from now, Vince won't be able to resist making himself the focal point of WWE. Although maybe I should have said “at least two”, because I'm starting to wonder whether or not Shane's going to be back in any long-term capacity on television.Chris Benoit will have won the WWF Championship.
The jury's still out on this one, quite frankly. This is actually one prediction that I become less
certain of with the passage of time.Kurt Angle will have won the WWF World Tag Team Championship.
It'd be very nice. And I can actually see a couple of probable partners for Angle should he decide to go for the Tag Team Title. Of course, right now the tag belts are on the opposite show.Kurt Angle will be one of the favorites to win an Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling in Athens in 2004.
Most likely. If anyone has the determination to win that gold medal, it'll be Angle. Of course, that'll probably make his character even more
insufferable than he already is! LOL!Most of the old guys who’ve recently returned to the WWF will be gone—or at least, gone in a full-time wrestling capacity.
Curt Hennig-- gone. Scott Hall-- gone. Hulk Hogan-- still around? Maybe? Hasn't been fired or released or retired yet, anyway. Goldust-- still around, and actually more over than I would ever have thought possible. I wish I would have been a little more specific with this prediction.
(Combining two predictions) Neither Sting nor Jeff Jarrett will have wrestled for the WWF between now and 2004.
I think Sting's probably pretty much done with wrestling. And Jeff Jarrett's in NWA-TNA, as long as that
lasts. I don't see Vince hiring Jarrett back, if he was going to he probably would have by now. We'll see.A dominant cruiserweight division still will not exist in the WWF in 2004.
Well, it doesn't currently exist, although I'm very pleased at how over The Hurricane and Jamie Knoble seem to have gotten. Rey Mysterio has arrived since I made my prediction, and after his match with Angle at SummerSlam we'll have to see whether or not he continues his feud with Angle or goes into the cruiserweight division.A WWF Superstar who we’ve never even conceived of in 2002 will enjoy a tremendous run of success and be on top of (or very near the top) of the promotion by 2004.
Stay tuned.Edge and Christian will get back together as a tag-team between now and 2004.
I actually thought this was close to a certainty at Vengeance when Edge and Hogan defended the Tag Team Title against Storm and Christian. Unfortunately for the E&C marks, it was not to be. Currently, Edge and Christian are now on different shows, so no unification seems to be in the immediate future. But a lot can happen in 20 months.
Overall, I think most of the predictions I made over four months ago still have a legitimate chance of holding up until April of '04. Anyone else care to share?
