I'll take six hits off whatever you're smoking, because they did better long term booking when they had 5-6 PPVs a year and ONE weekly show.

Ummm yeah, that's kinda the point he was making. When you have to fill so many hours per week nowadays, it's hard for them to write and manage long-term angles. Back in the day, you didn't have to plan for four RAWs per month - only PPVs and the odd Saturday's Night Main Event.
They don't have a shortage of people on the roster. Their matches aren't too long. Now how damn hard is it to take the more time they've been given to establish several long term storylines in addition to short term stuff?

Why do you condone his condoning of them being too damn lazy to plan ahead or invest any real effort in the writing? Soap Operas (who they mined God knows how many of their writers from) run how many days a year? And they aren't ANYWHERE near as inconsistent as the WWE has been over the past two years.

Oy vey. In one ear and out the other with you. :-P

This over-analysis of WWE's evil motives is what detracts from forums. Discussion is one thing. I happen to agree with most everyone here, but there's a point where you have to not take pro wrestling so seriously.

There were PLENTY of guys SmackDown. BULLSHIT they needed Angle. Benoit, Taker, Booker, Rey, even god help us Orton.

Benoit and Booker were in the middle of a program for the US Title, 'Taker was off TV for the time being, and if/when Rey wins it, they ought to do better than give him the title with no build. You'd prefer Orton over Angle who the fans pretty much demanded become a face?

The Batista turn was booked as a reaction to him growing on the crowd as well as Benoit/Jericho/Tajiri putting him over as a killer and not the Deacon. There was no master plan then. Like there's no master plan. They're using Eddie's death, screwing over Rey, and shoving Orton down our throats AGAIN, in a process of throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks.

I'm really not sure how this proves that the Batista turn and subsequent fued wasn't a long-term plan heading into Wrestlemania. I'm also not sure what the nonsequitirs about the Eddie and Orton have to do with anything either.

Soap operas have storylines so preposterous they'd make Vince McMahon himself embarassed of the stupidity and ridiculousness.

He's got that hand-waving deal. He can become INVISIBLE! This means MONEY, Dawg! - AWARulz on Cena.

The WWE treating Eddie's death lightly is what got this whole booking mess started.

One fact everyone here should be able to agree on is that the WWE has done a LOT more talking about Eddie's death to advance storylines than we have done complaining about it. And it's not something that they just did once (The Eddie Tribute Match Smackdown Special Whatever It Was Called) but something that they continue to do whenever they can't think of something for a heel to do. I treat fans complaining about how low they've gone to how McMahon treats Montreal and Bret Hart. No matter how many people say "Hey, just accept it and move on", I don't expect any fans to let it go until McMahon does first.

ps. Can someone PLEASE tell me what the "long term planning" is for Trish and Mickie James? Other than "A match at Wrestlemania" it seems to just be a mess at this point. I think they were heading somewhere at some point, but a few months ago they ran out of storyline and now are simply being booked together because it's convienient for the writers to give them a 4 minute segment to "do something" (I wouldn't be surprised if that was the actual instructions for nights like tonight) and forget about them.

The message I'm getting from youse guys here is THIS: Eddie Guerrero is dead, and should only ever be mentioned on WWE programming as a former WWE Champion that had his life cut short. They should completely avoid both associating his friends/relatives (Benoit/Chavo/Rey) with his memory for face heat as well as having heels disparige his memory for heel heat.

My point is that it's WWE creative's fault for painting themselves into a corner with the Rey/Orton booking. As soon as they used Eddie's memory as Rey's primary motivator in winning the Royal Rumble, they pretty much made is so that ANYBODY who faced Rey in the traditional February Placeholder Feud would HAVE to bring up Eddie.

Bad moves all around.

I have no problem with Rey dedicating his match to Eddie. I do have a problem with Rey dedicating a chair to Eddie because then he will get more money for selling it for the WWE.

Is Rey exploiting Eddie's death when he dedicates a match to him? Maybe. It's a grey area. Is the WWE creative group exploiting it when they force wrestlers to say that Eddie's burning in hell just so fans will boo him for the night? Absolutely.

Besides, it's a planned sport. It's not like Rey dedicated the Rumble match and then got his ass kicked. When he made the dedication, he knew he was going to win, so it was a nice thing for everyone involved to do to keep the memory of a man who died while working with them a few months ago in a good light. By the same "planned" token, Orton didn't say something 'in the heat of the moment'. There were meetings with people actually trying to think of the most offensive way to bring up Eddie's death.

I also don't believe that there was NO other way for Orton to get the #1 contender's match other than bad mouth Eddie. Why not have Randy just lose it over coming so close and not winning the Rumble. He can interfere in all of Rey's matches all the while yelling at Rey that he's not going to let him win his WM match unless he gets another chance. In order to get rid of Orton, Rey accepts. I started thinking of that at the beginning of the sentence and kept typing until I was done 25 seconds later, and I didn't turn any viewers off of the product either.

What about JBL? He was in an on and off feud with Rey? He's an instant contender, and those two could've continued to fight with the belt in between them.

Oh the fans were BEGGING to turn Angle face? No. The fans were begging for Angle to take the belt off Cena. If they were going to give a belt to Angle it should have come off Cena, onto him, without depreciating anyone from Smackdown.

Just as easy, they could've turned the Benoit/Booker feud into a World Title feud. The only reason they had no options was because they convinced themselves of that.

B/C turning a guy in two months because hey, he's getting cheers, is NOT long term booking. It's fan service. Which is not bad, it's just not long term booking.

They weren't non sequiters, they examples of what a mess this is and how it's NOT long term booking. Thanks for telling me that since you didn't have a reply the point was unimportant.

Oh yeah, Soap Operas are horrible. Necrophilia, Terrorism, fake gay marriage.... oh wait. Those are all WWE stories from the past few years!

That's 13 matches right there (seperating Cruiserweigh Open and winner v. Chavo). I know the show is gonna' be 5 hours, but that's still REAL deep. You have to figure that WWE will probably want a boatload of "WrestleMania Moments" packages.
