I dont know about anyone else, but I think that there is a huge lack of respect for Booker T. It seemed that when he was fueding with the Rock in the summer, the casual viewer and smark alike knew he was going to lose the PPV, regardless of how many beatdowns he put on Rocky. It was hard to take him seriously because he never one a big PPV match (summerslam) to continue a fued with some sizzle added to it. I think that if the WWF is serious about pushing T to REAL main event status, they have to give him a big win over a big name at a big PPV. No matter how many Booker/Bossman beatdowns they throw at the fans, no one will take T seriously until he wins a big PPV match. Anybody agree or disagree or gimme an idea?

I've been a Booker mark since the Harlem Heat high-top fade days. IMO, Booker is the #1 heel in the Fed. He has worked programs w/ Rock, Austin, & Taker, not bad work for a newbie (to the WWF that is). Now i know he got beatdown in all of them, but considering whats has happend to the other WCWers, he's settin pretty right now. He'll be alright in due time. I also think, there was a similar discussion about Jerico a while back. Remeber when they paired him w/ Mr. Hughes? WTF

Booker rules.
It's just that he's a MUCH BETTER face than heel. And booking him with Ray Traylor of all people ain't gonna help him.

You know another reason to respect Booker T?

I don't know about Booker being a better face than heel. I would have said that 6 months ago for certain, but the last few months have just made me revel in his heelness. Hell, he got my vote for Best Heel this year in RSPW voting. He plays the arrogant yet servile suckup so well. And I will be buying the "tell me you didn't just say that....Sucka!" shirt very soon in honor of this change.

There, I feel better now.

Don't forget, Harlem Heat was a heel team when they got started in WCW. So The Book as a heel isn't that much of a stretch. I just want him to dump the whole ripping off Rock and Austin routine. The Book End and "Who?" just make him look second rate.

Now if he brought back "You better get that camera outta my face, boy!" bit he used to do as half of Harlem Heat when he headed to the ring, that would rule.

I didn't see much of Booker T's good matches on WCW Nitro, so I only really can judge him by his matches in WWF. Given that he's always at odds with main eventers such as the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, SOMEBODY must be respecting him

But since he's a heel, it's a safe bet that the fans aren't the respecters.

Booker T is a great wrestler imo, and I bet that at one point he will be used as a serious threat.
Right now though they are still in the process of making his character.

The somewhat 'stupid' bully who will do about anything to get a job/spot and who loves to brag and show people how good he is. The 'spinarooni' and 'who?' also fit into that mould. He just wants to be the best at something..
And although he is a heel, I think he is one of those types that people do respect because his matches are allright. And he provides for some great moments in his skits.

Now for Booker T the man behind the gimmick this is probably the best way to get himself established inside the WWF. He was the first and only WCW wrestler to be used in the upper card and still is. Just give it some time and before you know it he will be holding one finger up telling us he is a one time WWF Champ, sucka!

I think Booker works great as either a heel or a face personality wise, but he seems to lack a tru;ly credible finisher. I am not sure if he is just not hitting the axe-kick like he used to or if the WWF guys are having trouble making it look stiff but it just looks weak now. He has a great look and is decent on the mic but he needs to incorporate some power into his ring work. Maybe Farooq can show him how to hit a big move and make it look painful. T has the muscle to pull it off and the conditioning to actuall keep up intensity vice the Acolyte style of ring work. Maybe I just picky...

I've always seen Booker T as a guy who raises the roof, and goes about his business of kicking ass. I have lost a lot of interest in Booker T since Mark Madden started making a big ass deal about the Spinaroonie. His winning the World Title was good, but felt overshadowed by all the Hogan BS. He is a TERRIBLE heel in my opinion. Booker T is THE face. I can't get into this version of Booker, as it feels like a watered down version of the Booker I came to love - 1998 through mid 99.

I know alot of fans disagree with my assessment of what Booker T should be, IE he's not a Sportz Entertainment champion, he's a wrestling champion. Goldberg didn't need a storyline to become champ, I don't see why Booker did either.

I would have loved to get a series of Booker T vs. Bret Hart matches on PPV for the title. They had a killer couple of matches in the spring of 99...

Great assesment. We had the "what should Booker's finisher be?" discussion on the old board, and the best idea I heard was using the "Super-Spinebuster" kind of move he does. I think he actually used it to finish sometime recently.

For a guy who looks that big and powerful, using so many kicks for offense (even though his ultra long legs make it look pretty cool) seems kind of a waste. I agree he needs more power moves.

I'm in favor of the heel Booker T for a few reasons.

1. Booker had the best facial expressions this side of Regal. He can do both the ultra menacing bad-ass and the scared shitless heel pretty darn convincingly. That's a huge plus for a heel.

2. I dug Booker's 98-99 face character, but his face character when he was WCW champ SUCKED. It was the most generic, bland, pathetic character ever. He had to basically beg the fans to cheer him and chant his catchphrase. I blame Russo a lot more than Booker for this, but that character still was awful.

3. Booker's best chance a true main-event status right now is as a heel. Austin, HHH, and Rick are going to be faces for a while, and Book isn't jumping any of them. Almost all the face main-eventers lately got their first crack a main-event status and the WWF championship as a heel. Booker should go that route also.

The fans will turn Booker face soon enough, I think. The casual fans I'm friends with have been into Booker (and the spinaroonie in particular) for a while now.

Booker's main problem is that as long as he keeps his "I think it's still 1986" gimmick, he's not going to be taken seriously as a face. At least he got rid of the flattop though.

The "super spinebuster" is Bob Holly's finishing move and while, yes, he is hurt and is a low-card guy, they still won't take his finisher away from him, been there too long, too respected backstage (well I think, I'm not actually backstage, so...). As for Booker T, I do agree he needs a finisher, the scissors kick was good as the preliminary move into the Spinarooni, into the finisher, it's not good as the finisher. Maybe he could use the heart punch? Nobody uses that one anymore.

(yes, that's sarcasm)

The Book is the man, period. I think he is someone that can actually work and has some of the best facial expressions in the biz. If you look at the Summerslam PPV match against the Rock, he was getting one hell of a reaction for the "consulting the hand". Of course he was booked to get some credibility back then as well. I was always impressed with the Book when he was in the ring with someone who is a good worker. His matches with Bret Hart and Benoit were memorable and even "I have to tape this" quality. That is why I hope one day he and HHH get in the ring together.

Ray Traylor as his manager is a terrible idea though. I am sure the WWF saw the Book as a up and coming star and thought Ray could get some rub off of him, but instead Ray has brought him down, IMHO. I am sure there are some big plans for the Book, down the line.

For now, I would settle for putting "Can you dig it, Sucka!!!" back in his entrance music and actually putting him on the WWFSuperstars site. Oh yeah and give him a clean, in the middle of the ring win against HHH. OK, I was kidding with the last one. But I can dream, can't I?

That's because he didn't need a freakin' catchphrase! Goldberg sure as hell didn't talk during his initial run. All Booker needed was credibility and slapping the title on him to establish that was the wrong thing to do.

Booker was READY for the US Title in spring of 99... But instead they gave him the TV Title for the millionth time before jobbing him to Rick Steiner. Then going back to Harlem Heat basically stopped his momentum.

He really should have taken the US Title and had one major defense per month, where he'd defeat an nWo member (be it Steiner, Hall, Nash, whomever) either cleanly or when interference backfired. He'd do minor defences on Nitro. Sooner or later he COULDN'T be denied a shot at the big belt. The way it all went down though made him look like some guy they drew out of a hat - even if the smarks online knew better.

Having not seen Booker on a regular basis before he got to the WWF, I think he's done amazingly well. I was worried after seeing that horrible initial Booker T/Buff Bagwell match, but T recovered very well and is main event material all the way. I really like him as a heel, he's done a great job.

The WCW Booker T character was very bland and one dimesional. I could never really get into him. Now the WWF has turned him into a character that I really like. He cracks me up with the way he talks and his 'you didn't just say that line' is one of the best in the busines right now. He's got so many *odd* characteristics from staring at his glove or twitching.

He just hasn't been booked right. Bossman won't help much. Nothing against the Bossman, I just can't see these two characters getting together. That and Booker really needs a finisher of his own.

I remember the "Booker's Finisher" topic.

I was for the Harlem hangover of the Heat-Seaker(Missle Dropkick), but since that knee of his is out-of-wack, those moves are a no-go.

Yeah. For a guy that's around 250lbs. - it was awesome seeing him use that Top-Rope Somersault Leg Drop. It's a shame he can't do those high-flying moves anymore.

But the fact is he needs a good finisher. The Scissor Kick is about as effective as the Lionsault, IMO.

I don't think we'll have to wait long unless they're committed with the Bookend. Hey, if UT can start using Dragon Sleeper - they can get Booker a new move too.

Hey, whatever happend to him saying something about the Game?

Oh, he came to the WWF?

Well, they brought back the Bookend, as they had to, so why can't they start a feud THERE too?

I mean, dammit, it wasn't all that great of a quote, but I thought it was pretty good.

I can dig it... once Booker T actually stops being used as a jobber and a wiener [!].

I have no problems with Austin/Hall. Although this isn't saying much, Hall is the best worker obviously out of the three and will be motivated to have a great match with Austin. What I want is the mystery man 6 man tag. Hogan/Nash and a mystery guy vs.
