I know a lot of people are upset with the current state of Smackdown. Injuries, Raw defections (w/ little in return) and stupid booking deteriorated the Blue Show into what Booker T calls it: the Minor Leagues. I mean, I dig the JBL character but not in a World Title program. I realize Eddie had nothing to do when Angle got hurt but Booker's right there (yes, I am a Booker mark, so nyah). But I digress...

Anyhow, I popped in some tapes from 2002 PPVs the other day and some vidcaps and remembered back when people were lauding Smackdown and hating all over the "Hunter and Friends Show". The matches I'm talking about were combinations of Edge, Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit: better known to us rasslin' fans on the Internet at the time as the Smackdown 6.

Just for some matches I'd watched from the Smackdown 6 Era from 2002:
- Edge v. Eddie Guerrero, No DQ: this somehow turned into a ladder match which ended with by far the sickest Edgecution ever.
- Rey Mysterio v. Kurt Angle from SD: I believe this was the rematch from Summerslam and this match was good and fun to watch. Angle shoves Rey; Rey slaps Angle; Angle chases Rey which ends up with Angle flying through the ropes.
- Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit v. Edge and Rey Mysterio (No Mercy 2002, I believe): The finals of the SD Tag Title tourney. Another great match. I do recall this insane spot were Edge had Rey in a powerbomb position and pushes him off so he moonsaults onto both. Sweet.
- Vignette with Eddie before the match: Benoit alerts Eddie that Chavo is getting beaten up. Eddie stops thinking that Benoit is bluffing. Chavo: "EDDIE!! HELP ME! OW!" Angle throws Chavo out the room. Angle to Eddie: "How are ya doing?" Priceless.

OK - question to the "Dub". Any favorites from the Smackdown 6 Era?

One of my favorite matches from the Smackdown! 6 was the three way Benoit/Angle/Mysterio. Rey kept getting thrown through the ropes onto the floor while Benoit and Angle would go at it. Then Rey would come from out of nowhere and knock the shit out of both guys.

Just about every Benoit/Angle match from that era was awesome as well...Plus it brought us the Halloween party and the birth of the Jon Cena rapping gimmick.

Was the Eddie vs. The Rock match from that time too? It seems to me that it was. I guess I'll have to dig out my old tapes from a few years ago. I'll just have to ff through all the Raw stuff, lol.

The Angle/Benoit .vs. Edge/Rey Jr. 2/3 falls Tag Title match that came soon after the No Mercy tournament finals was pretty swank. As was the Angle/Benoit .vs. Los Guerreros Semi's of that tournament. And all that has been mentioned so far too was good stuff.

Caped Boy: Excuse me, ladies. You may remember me as the guy who came to dinner a few weeks ago with underwear on my head. My name is Keith Stat from Milbourne, New Jersey. State bird, the mosquito. And as you may have heard I am recently a crowned class B dungeon-master. So if any of you would like to play D&D today, please speak now or forever hold your peace.
[He chuckles, and there is an awkward silence at the table.]
Caped Boy: Anyone? Alexa!
[Alexa gives him a withering glare.]
Caped Boy: Maybe you would like to join in? We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me.
Alexa: In your dreams, douche-bag!
Caped Boy: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you.
[Keith walks off]
Alexa: Ewww!

If I remember correctly...and I like to think that I am...this was from the Smackdown I was at in Toronto in October 2002.

Only other thing I remember from that show (besides the ridiculous $12 Air Canada Center beer) was a Sheldon Benjamin/Val Venis match that was my first exposure to Benjamin.

Eddie was still on Raw at that point; if I'm not mistaken, it was the Raw the night after Vengeance '02 when Rock won the title from Undertaker in the three way.

Off-topic a bit, since this is like a remembrance thread, but as much as I think Booker T is overrated, he's the best guy to use in the main event right now. As fresh as the JBL character may be, even casual fans probably still think, "Hey, wasn't he a tag guy recently?" I don't think Booker's a bona-fide main eventer per se, but given the condition of Smackdown right now, he's all they've got on the heel side besides Angle and Show (both of whom are injured).

My personal favorite moment from the Smackdown 6 came from this feud: Angle v. Chavo, with their respective partners outside the ring, of course, with Angle putting the Guerreros' very own "El Paso Lasso" on Chavo and screaming at Eddie: "This move sucks!"

I laughed about that for weeks.

Unfortunately for me..I've been SmackDown less for about 2 years. DirecTV doesn't have local channels where I live, and without local channels, I don't get UPN. Which means, the only time I've been able to catch SD! guys is either on PPV or Velocity.

Yup, Rock beat Eddie with a Rock Bottom. This was the match that really made me into an Eddie fan. He had a sweet reversal of the Rock Bottom, into an armdrag that had JR (and me) freaking out.

As for the original post, my votes with the Eddie/Edge no DQ match. Just a grueling, innovative match that was more than PPV-worthy.

I freaked when I saw Rey hit the 619 on Angle with the ringpost as his fulcrum.

Of course, all the SmackDown Six stuff came during the 18 months St. Louis didn't have UPN, but God bless Velocity for showing highlights.

That's true to a degree. I didn't like how he was booked to win the World Title last year and didn't think his ability was up to par with what being the top guy means, especially on RAW. Change of scenery and change of character can do wonders.
