I find WIlliam Regal to be one of the least entertaining parts of Raw. He kills whatever match he is in for me and has halted my love for Lance STorm. I mean damn, i havent even read his online commentaries in a great while since they been together.
Just had to share and break the HHH monotony

For those who doubt how entertaining William Regal can be, let's take a trip back in time!

To a monitor playing an episode the Hulk Hogan cartoon...we pull back to see William Regal surrounded by all sorts of 80s Hogan memorabilia. He makes a face and shakes his head. Is that even Hogan doing Hogan's voice? Regal pauses the tape. His music starts up to serve as a chilling background. "Quite disturbing, isn't it? Y'know, people are very passionate about things in their lives - some people are very passionate about religion; others about politics. It grieves me to say that there's an alarming group of people that are passionate about Hulk Hogan. These so-called Hulkamaniacs - they're the lowest form of the low, they're quite pathetic; I mean, why would you worship a man, I mean, who ponces around like a fifty pence tart in these feather boas? It's - it's disgusting. It was bad enough eighteen years ago when Hulk - Hulk Hogan and his Hulkamaniacs were running wild, but now in the year 2002, it's just quite sad. People buy this crap, you know - I mean, look at it. Look. I mean, they hang this on their walls. I mean, look, look, look, look at this, look, look, (puts cap on) ooh look at me, look at me, I'm a - I'm a Hulkamaniac, and I've got my silly little Hulk Hogan cup any my hat and my silly little doll and I look a complete bloody pillock! Why...I just don't understand, it's a travesty, that you people can't respect and follow someone like myself. I wish I could say it was just you pathetic Americans, but it's not - it's a worldwide phenomenon. I mean, you could...I mean, worship someone like me, someone with pride and dignity. Someone who speaks the Queen's English, someone who can finish a sentence without saying 'brother' at the end of it. That really gets on my bloody nerves, that one. Tonight, after I get Hulk Hogan in the ring for the very first time, things are going to change. Hulkamania will be running wild no more. So I'll direct this at you, Hogan, so you can understand it in your simple way. What are you going to see, when the Power of the Punch runs wild on thee? No, I don't think so."
-CRZ's Raw Recap 29/4/2002

His all-time best promo! But as a wrestler, Regal hasn't been at his best in years. This tells me Regal needs to be a manager! Hell, he could keep the brass knucks! For a manager, that would actually WORK! I hope Regal decides to hang up the tights and become a manager soon, because he could be at his very best as a mouthpiece for some young rookie from OVW.

I don't know... I find Regal to be entertaining. I caught like 20 minutes of Raw (yeah, I know, I swore it off, but I had nothing better to do) and it was decent. GRANTED< I like him better outside of the ring than in (I still remember being present in Phoenix when I got my "table Manners" lesson from him), but on the whole, I find him to be a great generic heel in the ring, and that makes certain basic needed elements of storytelling (in-ring) easier.

Damn- I am going to have to change my footer banner real soon- too much gimmick infringement going on around here ;)

“What are you going to see, when the Power of the Punch runs wild on thee?” I love it. Regal not only cuts great promos, but he's got excellent facial expressions. And he can wrestle, too! So what's with the lack of love for Regal?

How could any person "in the know" not laugh out loud during the post match promo with Regal telling the Bisch that he has always liked him and has always enjoyed working for him. The man is gold on a mic, and I hope like hell that this little fued between Lawler/J.R./Storm/Regal ends with Regal taking Lawler's spot at the booth.

I happen to like Regal and his old-school style of wrestling. Regal has only sucked because of the situation he's in right now. With Storm, he has no opportunities to cut some awesome promos anymore, and we rarely see any of his charisma (and he has PLENTY with all of those expressions). He was much better as an IC level singles grappler when he could do his in-ring promos on manners and whatnot. I like his shoot-fighting-like style, with the knees/european uppercuts/submissions. It reeks of classic old-school wrestling, and if you saw his piece on Confidential, you'd realize that's exactly how he learned to wrestle. Just get him out of this horrible goddamn tag team.

I actually saw Regal and Storm have a match live once and I thought that was a very good match. Of course the crowd didn't care, (it was at the Nassau Coliesum.)

As for Regal, I enjoyed his stint as Commissioner. He was a very good heel, and even as a face he was alright.

I hope he gets the opportunity to speak some more, and its been a while since he said "toerag."

I'm still left out on the Nassau Coliseum talk, being at SummerSlam. I marked my ass off all night and so did most other people. I've always thought this anti-NC thing was kind of odd....maybe cause it's in NY, I don't know....

Trust me, Nassau Coliseum ain't the only place Regal and Storm can put to sleep.

Unfortunately -- yes...If you're a great wrestler with a shitty character, nobody will care at all. We know this...that's why people can get into Angle + Eddy matches better than Benoit matches; not because they're better than him, but because they have the charisma to get the live crowds into it.

It really is funny how the internet folk and the live crowd folk are completely different in taste.

Sadly, I've been to live WWE events up and down the East coast and I can attest to the dull Nassau crowds. I was at separate SD and Raw tapings there in 2000 and 2001 and both crowds were D-E-A-D. Now, maybe they were two isolated incidents, but I can see where the stereotype comes from. Hell, maybe it's just a case of Garden-envy.
But back on topic, Regal doesn't do much for me. My interest in his matches is usually dependent on his opponents. And his "classic" promos haven't done much for me in months.

The WWE could put on 2 hours of Kevin Kelly sitting on the toilet reading a phone book, and I'd still watch next week.

Didn't they sort of mention in passing a Regal/Lawler match next week? If so, I hope they go all old-school. It could actually be pretty good.

As far as Regal and Storm being unover as a sign of people not being able to recognize good wrestling, let's face it: Storm and Regal aren't good. Lance Storm's tenure in the WWE has been very disappointing considering all the hype you used to hear about him. Lance Storm is really an above average worker at best and he's way too vanilla inside and outside of the ring for the fans to care about him. Regal is an acquired taste, blah blah blah we all know the story.

I've always liked Regal. His promos have been excellent for ages, and no one makes better facial expressions than Regal. His style is "European". It's supposed to be slow. He never has been one to fling himself off the top rope. I've got no problem with that. His forearm shots look very stiff, and he sells for his opponents. Must be something wrong with selling. He is a fine singles performer, and most of his singles matches told the story. Guess matches aren't supposed to do that anymore. So, what exactly is the problem with Regal, besides the fact that he is slow?

regal is definitely at his best in comedic backstage situations.. his promos with mick foley as dual-commissioners and with tajiri were great.

it's like my friend joe said..
"i like that william regal."
me: "why? all he does is throw some elbows and then hit people with brass knuckles."
"oh, that's why i watch him walk to the ring, make menacing faces, and then turn the tv off, but not before i say 'i like that william regal.'"

I kind of think that Regal's "Unoverness" is one of the things that makes him a great heel. If you look at guys like The Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker, etc, these were all guys who were great heels, but the fans fell in love with them and turned each of them face.
Regal HAD charisma, but not of the sort that would make your average fan a fan of him. He IS well spoken, and can handle promos with ease when he has something to talk about. His in-ring persona is arogant and cocky, and as a heel, the he can do the simplest things to make the crowd boo. I personally just LOVE his little - wave to the crowd-taunt after he beats down his opponent.
His moves are not flashy, one of his trademarks (of late) is the use of a forign object, and EVERYONE sells that this is actually cheating, and the crowd simply refuses to cheer for him.
In my opinion, this likely makes him one of the greatest heels in the company, from a performance standpoint.

First of all, Pool-Boy, we appreciate the inspiration. Please don't hold it against me. Also, nice shot of Blink.

Second, I've never really thought that Regal's in-ring style was all that great. Not that he's bad, but it just doesn't really do much for me. As for his mic work, however, I think it's golden. That whole British thing he's got going (wait, you mean he's actually British? I thought wrestling was fake!) adds to the snotty, arrogant heel factor. I thought he was a great commissioner, both as a heel and as a face, because of the mic work. I him getting bleeped on his appearance on Tough Enough, and the thought of him cursing just seemed so......out of place because of his intellectual snob character being so convincing

I dunno, maybe if I'd actually seen that match against Benoit at that Pillman Memorial show, I'd have a different opinion on his wrestling.

One of these days, someone's going to start a thread with that title and provide a post to match. With a little Photoshop assistance, of course.

But yeah, Storm y Regal bore the hell out of me. Can we at least move them on to better things?

Scooter: That would rock the ass, if Regal took Lawler's spot.

In his own unique little way Regal has charisma, and not in the usual testosterone laden way that many of the modern 'superstars' have. His promos are different from anyone elses (in a good way) and that little wavy thing he does to the crowd cracks me up so much all my CAW's did in Smackdown on the PS1.

His wrestling I guess is a bit old school for some, and I'd really like to see him ditch the brass knucks (preferably not in favour of a return to the Regal Stretch), but he's still a damn sight more entertaining than many on the payroll.

On the flip side tho, Storm/Regal have to be the least over tag champions in some time, and I've read a lot of shit that suggests that Regal is far from beneficial to locker room morale
