Because when I look at the Sox roster, I see a lack of pitchers with plus-5 ERAs. And, hell, this guy was waived by the DEVIL RAYS. Waived. By the worst team in baseball. He'll definitely propel us to the pennant.

Ex-Devil Rays? Waived? Of course! Look at all of the juice that Gerald Williams and Jose Canseco gave the Yanks!

I thought Tony Clark was going to do that...

"Canseco" and "juice" are two words that fit very well together.

They got him for nothing and he can fill out Pawtucket's roster. If he gets something going, Epstein looks like a genius. If he stays in Pawtucket all year - who cares? He's only 27 and might turn it around. Probably not, but it's a low risk acquisition.

Please excuse Theo from signing Tom Glavine. He was to busy signing released Tampa Bay Devil Rays that started bean ball wars with the 2002 Red Sox.
Signed, Epstein's Mother.

| #8 Posted on 2.12.02 1706.47 | The Red Sox are going to have a lot of problems until they can replenish their farm system. Until then there are going to be a lot of retread pitchers and aging hitters who are more than likely looking for one last shot.

Glavine was never gonna sign with the Sox. You know it, too.
