The first thing about this movie is not that it's for little kids, it's that it will make you feel like a little kid.
The movie has a lot of heart, as cheesematic as that may sound, it's not just some bullshit HOW DO WE MAEK MONEY OUT OF FILM ADAPTATION OF ROCKEM SOCKEMS? It's a compelling, emotional piece and worth every penny to go see in theaters.

When Atom knocks down Zeus, the whole theater burst into applause. Not cause boxing robots are cool (they are) but because this is a movie that just gets you so personally invested in its plot.
