| #1 Posted on 6.12.02 0021.21 | A lot of people seem to read the spoilers. Personally, I'm of the "no spoilers for me, thanks" camp -- for me its much more fun to watch the show unfold. If you're not going to watch the show for whatever reason (eg. the people who can't get UPN stations), I can see why you might as well know ASAP. And I supppose there are people who decide whether to watch or not based on what the spoilers look like.
I'm just curious about the rest of the people who like the spoilers: Is it that you like knowing ahead of time? Is it just that you can't stand to wait (you little immediate-gratification puppies!)? :-) Does it enhance your enjoyment of the show? I'm seriously curious about how that works for other people.| Promote this thread! | | Ticamo

| #2 Posted on 6.12.02 0031.37 | I read the spoilers from time to time, but only if I'm certain that I'm not going to be able to see the show. This usually is determined by whether I feel a show is 'recordable' or not. If a majority of it is not amusing for me, I may not record it. Or, if something is going to happen during the second hour that I might want to keep, then I'll begin recording then. This is based on Smackdown, of course.
Take tonight's show, for instance. Not interested in Albert taking our Rey Mysterio, so I didn't record that first hour. But you best believe that I have Guerrero Vs. Benoit Vs. Angle Vs Edge.
Reading the spoilers let me know what I should keep. They also let me know that I'll be angry because we had no Mattitude this week. grrr... | fuelinjected

| #4 Posted on 6.12.02 0043.14 | I used to try to avoid spoilers, because like others have said, you just knew you were going to watch regardless. Nowadays though, I no longer plan to keep monday or even thursday nights free anymore, so for me the SD! spoilers let me know how high to prioritize being at home to catch the show. Tonight rated high due to the Fatal Four Way match, and I was not at all disappointed. Other weeks though if things don't sound interesting enough, then I'll go do other things with my time.

| #5 Posted on 6.12.02 0406.57 | Instant Rating: 4.52 | I read the spoilers just about every week, unless I know I've got Thursday off. Then I don't, because when I have Thursday off I always plan to watch SmackDown. But I only get Thursday off once every six weeks or so, not very consistently in any case. “Where are you from?” “Earth, and we're not at war with anyone except each other.” --Grig and Alex Rogan, The Last StarfighterTwo-Time, Two-Time Randomly Selected Wiener of the Day, 5/27/02 and 7/3/02 Certified RFMC Member-- Ask To See My Credentials! | Hogan's My Dad

| #6 Posted on 6.12.02 0415.21 | Never touch them. I watch RAW and Smackdown every week, good or bad. I'm a hardcore fan and I know I'm going to watch. I have accidently read them in the past and it made the show about 450 000 times less enjoyable.
My best quotes from the NOV. 21 Smackdown Recap: -"a bath sponge is a King-Size bed to Rey Mysterio Jr" -"He stands on the apron for the west-coast-pop, a cool move with a very, very homosexual name." -"Through this felled wall we see Crash Holly lying on a table being orally pleasured by the trainer." -"Here comes Benoit! | #7 Posted on 6.12.02 0522.41 | I watch both shows as often as possible, and I usually read the spoilers. i think i actually enjoy smackdown more becauseof it. if its not a great show, i wont be so disapointed when i watch, which seems to happen more often for Raw.

(Bishchoff gay wedding angle) I find that it keeps me looking more forward to Raw each week because I don't know what's going to happen on Mondays. Consider it reverse psychology, I guess...

I usually read all Raw reports (thus "spoiling" it) and everything, then first the SD! spoilers on wednesday and then SD! reports on friday.
It hardly ever takes away from watching the shows. In fact, sometimes when I read alot of stuff online about how bad it was, I get to prepare and usually I like it alot, maybe because of expecting the worst.

That was a brilliant old trick at university. A whole group of us would watch Raw and Smackdown and have bets on the results, the morons not knowing that it was a simple matter of checking the WWF website to know the results. I managed to blag it up enough one night that the Brooklyn Brawler and Kaientai won £40 for me (it would have been £20, but I bet double on the Brawler winning, which got me laughed out of the room).

I'm with you on the Raw comment. I think that is why I can't wait for Raw each week, even though I am usually disappointed.
I always check spoilers, because there is (for me) a lot of good television on Thursdays, so I don't always watch Smackdown anyways. I want to know, like the rest, if there is something important happening on SD. For instance, I made sure to watch SD this week because of the 4-way match. It works for me.

Effectively even reports on the 'live' RAW are spoilers for me so either I steer clear of sites like this all week or I read the spoilers. Generally I'll only avoid them if I know ive got the friday off to watch RAW but that happens about as often as Mark Henry has a ***** match. | mountinman44

Me either. I read the spoilers every week as well. It doesn't affect my enjoyment, and the lack of long term memory caused by my job allows me to forget most of them anyway.

Plus, it gives you a warning when something moronic like Fabulous Moolah in a main event occurs.

| #19 Posted on 7.12.02 1339.41 | | What an interesting assortment of answers -- thanks everybody! I didn't have any idea that there'd be so many people making "watch / don't watch" (or "tape / don't tape") decisions based on the spoilers. And its also fascinating (to me, at least) that knowing what's going to happen doesn't spoil the enjoyment for some people. Very interesting. | Firecracker
