I finished Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck earlier this week for some role research. I was thinking about auditioning for the community theatre play of the same name.

Currently I'm reading The Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

I'm about 90% done with Listen, You Pencil Neck Geeks by Freddie Blassie, and in the previous month have read More Than Hardcore by Terry Funk and Walking A Golden Mile by William Regal (and their various ghost writers).

Regal's book has the most compelling story, but Blassie's book has an incredibly interesting format, like a combination autobiography and oral history. Funk's book was ok, but took the longest to get through.

I'm currently reading Broken Prey by John Sandford. He's easily my favorite writer and has a very nice style to read quickly. Good summer reading. By the way, if any of you Minnesotans like to read your local places of interest getting pimped, then Sandford's your guy.

The last book I actually finished was The Bad Guys Won! which I thought was about the 2004 Red Sox, but it turned out to be about the 1986 Mets - who really didn't seem that bad in comparison. Hmmmm. Go figure

I just finished Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code. Because of Harry Potter, I am reading more "Young Adult" fare and multi-series fare. I blew through the Lemony Snicket books, and the Artemis Fowl series is so far a good deal of fun. I just bought the fourth book (The Opal Deception), so that's what I'm reading at the moment.

Currently, I'm reading Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, basically because I realized the other day that I never read it before. I wish I wasn't working/moving to a new apartment so damn much, because I usually fall asleep or have to go to Wal Mart every time I start to really get rolling (it's a long book).

At the beach a few weeks ago I did my usual summer trifecta of Michael Connelly (The Closers), Lee Child (One Shot) and John Sandford (Broken Prey). All three are highly recommended, especially Connelly, who keeps getting better and better.

Nightmares & Dreamscapes (malakoff.com) by Stephen King. Nothing groundbreaking, standard King fare. On the 14th story, and IMO there have been only 3 or 4 that I'd consider really good.

I'm almost finished with re-reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Before that it was The Grim Grotto and Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince.

Next up will probably be Eragon, which I've never read.

I read Harry Potter and HBP the day it came out.

I've been on a baseball and poker book kick mostly as of late. I read "Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty" by Buster Olney and "Three Nights in August" by Buzz Bissinger and Tony LaRussa. Then I read "The Biggest Game in Town" by A. Alvarez (his look at high-stakes poker in 1980), "The Professor, The Banker, and the Suicide King" (a description of the high-stakes games between Andy Beal and a cast of the top poker players in the world), "Super System 2" (which is awesome), and I just finished the 2 volumes of Dan Harrington's books on tournament poker, which are probably combined the best poker book I've ever read.

I've kinda been on a "Banned" book binge lately, I've read "The Catcher and the Rye" which I found to be good. I'm reading "Flowers for Algernon" right now it a little boring but I'm almost finished with it. And I also have "Fahrenheit 451" which I haven't read yet but look foward to it.

Read the following in the past few months:

Watership Down, which I never read as a kid and I really wish I had.

The Wizard of Quarks, very good book about quantum physics and whatnot, told through the Wizard of Oz story.

Ishmael, a book which has seriously affected the way I think about everything now, more so than any other book I've ever read.

I'm reading a three book series written by Ted Dekker, the books are entitled "Black", "Red", and "White". I can't put the books down and that's saying a lot because I'm not much of a book reader. He's considered to be a Christian Mystery/Thriller writer, but most of the Christianity part is through symbolism so I think someone who doesn't care about the Christian aspect would probably still enjoy it.

Who would ban Flowers for Algernon? It's been a bit since I last read it, but there can't be anything considered questionable in it.

"Explicit, distasteful love scenes cited among reasons for opposition." (quoted from http://www.gumbopages.com/fridge/banned-books.txt)

I think the better question is who would voluntarily READ Flowers for Algernon? Well, besides ICEMAN... ;-)

I just finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I've been kinda dragging my feet about reading the books just because everyone else WAS reading them. But the gf was after me to read it so we could talk about them and I was all like "as you wish".

Next books are Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince. But, after that I've got The Dirt waiting for me, b/c I'm on a Crue kick after seeing them in concert on Saturday at Nissan.

I was in the process of reading the Dark Tower books again, but I got stuck in Wizard and Glass AGAIN. That book just goes on and on...

Semi-Tough and Dead Solid Perfect by Jenkins - very highly recommended.

And ICEMAN - if you're on that binge, go for On The Road as well. It's a good companion for Catcher.

Just finished reading Bill Maher's "New Rules." Not really an actual BOOK, as it's more of a joke book. Good for what it was. I'm planning on reading William Regal's book next.

Go for the good stuff... Story Of O, 120 Days Of Sodom, Emannuelle... Well, the DeSade was a good read anyway.
