PAS: Batista v. Tajiri was a really well worked big man v. little man match. Tajiri yet again is a really great beaten babyface. He is really the only guy besides Val Venis who is allowed to use varied offense, and he breaks out a bunch here. Batista kicks his ass and I loved the drooling mist.
TKG: It was less Tajiri breaking out wider offense than him using multiple variations of stuff. This is actually the first good Batista singles match. Worked Benoit, wasn't good. worked Michaels, wasn't good, worked RVD was messy. Worked a feud with D-Von, painfull. Worked a bunch of people in OVW, unimpressive. Batista's gotten alot better and Tajiri is apparently really good as an underdog babyface ( a role he's never worked elsewhere). Only problem with the match is that I think they should keep Tajiri in the uppercard mix since he's really good in this role and not sure where he goes after this match.
PAS: Randy Orton v. Edge was alot of fun. Orton breaks out all of his old school Velocity offense, including the weird backbreaker and frog splash bodypress. Their was a bunch of really awkward spots here including Orton ducking for no reason for a kick, Edge doing leg stretches masquerading as kicks, Orton attempting to debut his rana, and the ugly spear on Flair. I did really like Orton's crossface chickenwing, and Edge's style running forearms.
TKG: This was alot of fun. Edge is a guy who I normally don't really like in singles matches as he really works like the worlds tallest Spike Dudley. Guy who bumps like underdog and has a bunch of over offense that he can hit out of nowhere. Doesn't bump as big as Spike and, well offense isn't as good as Spike's. But he's three feet taller than Spike so that whole style doesn't normally make sense. I really enjoyed the way Edge worked in this as he was like if you crossed BJ Whittmer with Sicodelico Jr. Crossing Whittmer with Sicodelico Jr isn't going to make you a wrestler that I like, but its a better style for Edge to wrestle than what he normally does.
PAS: I was really fearing the Diva trios match, but this was fine as they kept Nidia and Stacy out of the ring. I am amused at Gail Kim owning one T2P tape.
TKG: They really fucked up in sending Miss Texas to Smackdown. Most of the women on RAW are heel (Trish, Jazz, Molly, Gail, and I assume they'll be turning Lita heel). Victoria really hasn't figured out how to work face. And neither Nidia or Stacie have alot of face wrestling experience. Miss Texas could 've really been put to better use as veteran leader in this place. Why does Gail Kim get multiple finishes when Shelton Benjamin is stuck doing Sting signature spots? Not even the Sting finisher, just his signature spots. Scorpion death drop and Stinger splash without getting to do the Scorpion Death lock. Gail Kim gets two submissions, but Benjamin gets nothing.
TKG:Rip Rogers trained Nick Dinsmore whipping out the airplane spin into the top rope axehandle.
PAS: The only thing the crowd is actually into is the retard. Regal is a really great actor as he actual conveys regret and contemplation in his facial expressions. Ross is calling a completely separate angle then Regal is working and someone really should put together a booking sheet before the show.
TKG: The crowd was weirdly miked for the whole night as it really sounded like they were in an arena that seated fifty in a room attached to a bar. You'd here about fifty people really into the matches and then a lot of glass tinkling and muffled bar muttering in the background. Eugene comes out and the crowd goes electric. And the crowd gets loud and hot from here on out. Weird.
PAS: Jericho cage was pretty good. Tyson Tomko misses Jericho by about 3 feet and they really need to cut to the bearded guy with a flannel giving a thumbs down. Time to send that guy back down to OVW and replace him with one of the other 4 dozen tatted guys Cornette has to book around. Nice blood on Christian and the finish was really good.
TKG: They need to give every wrestler a roided out OVW guy, like personal helper monkey.
TKG: Johnny Nitro is actually kind of effective in his role as Bischoff's apprentice. Pretty good use of useless tough enough graduate. What's Maven doing these days? Richards is depressed he could use an apprentice.
What Didn't Work
TKG: 20 Man Battle royale and they still haven't found time to redebut Palumbo and A-Train. Damnit either use them or let me get to see them work Tanahashi.
PAS: Jesus I assumed Helmsley would just beat the shit out of Benjamin, Pedigree him and bury him, instead he treats him like whoever Beefcake was working before Ron Bass cut him with spurs. Don't even bother beating him, shit at least Scott Hall and Sixx-Pac beat Hector Garza's ass.
TKG: Not even a DQ when Michaels enters the ring. When Dusty ran in on Flair they'd at least announce that Tony Zane lost by DQ.
TKG: Bischoff is really effective when booked as scummy motherfucker. After Three minute Warning they decided instead to book him like Richard Deacon's put upon father on Leave it To Beaver. That was pretty stupid use of Bischoff. Plus how is the really put upon father of Lumpy supposed to get heel heat. They seem to have given up on that. Instead tonight Bischoff was booked like like Richard Deacon as Mel Cooley on the Dick van Dyke show. It isn't much better.
PAS: No Bubba pointing to the sky before having Grenier jump on his belly? BAH!
PAS: Man that sucks about Venis getting layed out, that means no longish Venis v. Benoit match on Heat this week.
TKG: Yeah who is Benoit gonna work? Rhyno again ?
PAS: Hirohito was originally supposed to debut tonight and get pushed into a feud with Benoit over the tile. The push was scrapped because they decided that Kenzo Suzuki wasn't adequate in the ring. Considering that he hasn't been working houseshows and didn't work OVW, that means that they just got their World Japan tapes in this week. They really shouldn't have ordered them from Trent.
TKG: Suzuki doesn't even look like Hirohito relative. They're all about the goofy horror angles lately. You put Hoshino in zombie makeup with top hat and tails. Have him manage Masaru Toi and Fugofugo in stage make up as his Living Dead Kamikaze. Have them attack Slaughter. That would draw better than Brother VooDoo-T and Mordecai Son of Satan vs. Deadman by Night.
This isn't entirely unlike all of the old blues musicians who got paid paltry sums by recording studios who proceeded to make millions of dollars off their work. From what I can see, none of them ever successfully recuperated any of them money.
