PAS: Really well put together game of musical chairs. I watched this live with Kate and I could call every spot before it happened. Tom came in later and also called every spot before hand. Still predictable doesn't mean bad. Flair is such a pro, and has enough shtick to make me enjoy musical chairs. Lawler also played his roll well. Tomko can't even play musical chairs. They really need to hotshot the "Loser gets his back tatoo lazered off" match with Batista and send him back to OVW.
TKG: I did call the Flair gets pantsed and goes around the chairs for one round with ass exposed. That didn't happen. But still really well worked musical chairs.
TKG: Hey Nidia's hair is no longer straightened. Huge improvement. This was surprisingly good for a on a pole match not involving BJ Travis. This was surprisingly good for a three way dance on a pole match. Everyone worked really stiff and the bumps were appropriately big.
TKG: I've seen fat kids bust their legs and ankles up on moon bounces. Given all his weight and bum leg it was really brave of Helmsley to get on a moon bounce the week before PPV.
PAS: Jericho v. Orton was really fun especially all the nifty arm work by Orton. Jericho also had some really nice selling. Finish wasn't very good and felt very 80's Prime Time Wrestling. Jericho is on a hot streak and his match with Batista should be very good.
TKG: This took a while to come together. I didn't much care for the Orton dropkicks Jericho when Jericho comes from the second rope. What is Jericho's second rope move? WWE/F matches have traditionally been layed out alot like Family Gundan matches where everyone has signature spots. Family Gundun matches though don't have signature reversals among their signature spots. Once the match picked up, it picked the fuck up. Jericho did a really great job selling the arm and a lot of the arm work was well done. The one criticism I'd make is when Jericho and Orton were exchanging blows Jericho is working one armed, Orton should be throwing bombs with both hands to emphasize the difference. Orton stayed to throwing punches and shivers with the same hand. Really good looking double clothesline spot which is a spot the WWE uses all the time and rarely looks good. Finish was really abrupt but damn damn good match.
What Didn't Work
TKG: Can't we stop pretending and just admit that they're running a open casting for the role of Kane daughter? The blonde trannie with the bad boob job from last week looked like she could work a Kane/Marlena love child gimmick. The red haired trannie this week is closer to the Lita/Kane thing they're looking for. They should feud those two.
PAS:Man did Helsmley look botoxed tonight. I hope he doesn't have to do any facial selling at the PPV. Beniot will kick out of the pedigree and Helmsleys face will be frozen in permanent surprise. His pre-match PPV mike work is consistently shitty and really long.
TKG: Wow that was one poor ass fake Anticristo mic work. Even with a giant lamb head over his head Mando could pronounce the definition of miracle properly. Anticristo didn't trip over his lines, "NOT GODDDDD BUT ME!!!"
TKG: I know the WWE is creatively bankrupt, but still stealing the "retard in control" gimmick from TNA is pretty low.
PAS: Yeah I kept on expecting Eddie and London to climb for the pinata, Jimmy Snuka Jr. trying to behead Akio or Rhyno masturbating in a garbage can. I mean yeah they gave me a pregnancy angle, Oklahoma blabbering about nonsense, and a Nitro girls climb a pole match, but cmon where is Maven renaming himself Mel Lotto?
TKG: Whose idea was it to give Rhino and Grenier long striking exchanges? That sucked ass.
PAS: Kane v. Batista never got a chance to go anywhere. There is no reason that you couldn't give it 6 minutes before you have the angle. Nice double clothesline though which is really rare in the WWE.
TKG: I've really enjoyed Batista's monster work as monster vs. smaller opponent. this was going to be the chance to see wether he could deliver the monster vs. monster matches that Mark Henry was regularly delivering. Well the jury is still out.
PAS: Main event was god awful. Beniot and Helmsley looked terrible in their sections with each other. Haven't they been working House shows for half a year? How can they not do one exchange without looking like CZW trainees? Boy it only took a month for Helmsley to kill Eugene's heat. My guess is that in six months he will be working 3-way dances with Supreme Lee Great in an Anacostia community center.
TKG: Fuck was that awful. Benoit vs. Kane made me wish I had gotten the PPV match. The Benoit vs. Helmsley sectons made me have no interest in seeing the PPV match. They couldn't mesh at all as nothing either did looked good against each other. It was all really slow like they were doing a dress rehearsal dry run of a match, and well at half speed it didn't make me want to see it at full speed. Also Helmsley shouldn't take a high backdrop right after Flair takes one as it just makes Helmsley look imobile. Edge looked off and was forced to sell the stupid "knocked the fuck out" by Eugene's superstrong back rakes. They run multiple accidental collision with Eugene spots, each killing the heat for the other. they do the same torch elbow on ring post spot that was big spot in Orton vs. Jericho. Just an atrociously bad match.
Wondering if anyone out there has come across a comprehensive year-in-review type feature, column or webpage yet? Just trying to put together a faux year in review for Inside The Ropes and looking for a good point of reference.
