Sounds like most any article dealing with sports rumors or entertainment rumors. Watch the press when the MLB trade deadline approaches and it'll sound much the same.

Or they could do what some others in other fields of news reporting where they would spout it off as fact and simply cite their "sources" to cover their ass.

The golden rule about reading Meltzer is that the only person who takes him 100% seriously is Meltzer. Much like Mel Kiper Jr. on ESPN, and the talking heads on Around the Horn, with the exception being Meltzer doesn't oft question what the WWE or TNA does when he reports, that gets left to us (by which I mean the dinks with keyboards and avatars we think are really cool). However, whenever he reports, people read because we like our dirt sheet gossip to fill the void between Monday nights, not because he's right all the time (more often than not, he isn't).

On that note, Meltzer is also a worker, except he puts himself over with those he's working (ahem...) via PWI.

I always assumed the draft picks were made by the GM's, not random lottery style. Also, who the hell was responsible for roster trades if not the GM? Unless Teddy Long's unemployment is extremely short lived, I have trouble wrapping my head around a draft where John Laurinaitis has the first pick as Raw GM, then another intro for Animal's brother as Smackdown! GM, then some weird schizophrenia which makes him trade people he picked to begin with. I dunno, I'm sure the WWE will come up with some goofy plot device that makes less sense than Ryback's competition getting a microphone, someone putting a tidy case for Jinder Mahal's turban ringside for him out of the kindness of their hearts (I like to think it's Linda McMahon right after baking a batch of peanut butter cookies for C.M. Punk, helping Dolph Ziggler with his homework, and tucking AJ into bed for the night after a nice story), Alberto Del Rio driving into the arena just in time for his match while wearing his tights, Lord Tensai the Japanese guy from Boston (to be fair, he hasn't become a port-o-john for the crowds like I thought, not bad for a Teijo Khan rehash), or the magical effect any given wrestler's music has in making them go backstage (I like to think if they didn't play the music they'd just wander off for a pretzel).

Still think Meltzer is rediculous?

I really wanna see Brock squash someone before the PPV.

The last several drafts they've done have been the kind where, on the TitanTron, they flip through the pictures of the roster and just land on someone. That's pretty much the definition of random. As for the trades, yeah, the GMs can't make trades with each other if there's only one guy, but I can't even remember the last actual trade there was between GMs.

While not exactly a trade, John Cena started the 2011 draft on Raw, was drafted to Smackdown, represented Smackdown in a match, and then was drafted back to Raw.
If wikipedia can be believed, the last trade was back in 2005, when Mark Jindrak, Rene Dupree, Danny Basham, Kenzo Suzuki, Hiroko, and Chavo Guerrero were traded for William Regal, Candice Michelle, Sylvan Grenier, Simon Dean, and Stevie Richards.

People on the current roster who have switched rosters 3 more more times from drafts/trades since the brand split rosters were finalized include the Big Show (4x: Raw to Smackdown to Raw to Smackdown to Raw), William Regal, Great Khali, Hornswoggle, Kofi Kingston, Natalya (although this includes a two-month stint on ECW before she was traded back to Smackdown), and Rey Mysterio (and maybe Triple H and John Cena depending on whether it counts if you switch twice in the same night).

I think Meltzer is almost diametrically opposed to Mel Kiper and Around the Horn. He's incredibly low maintenance. He's just a dude with an answering machine and the e-mail addresses of most of the people in power in wrestling. He reports what he knows, no frills almost to the point of being negative frills, and if you like it, great.

On that note, Meltzer is also a worker, except he puts himself over with those he's working (ahem...) via PWI.

I ... see.

Anyway yeah the draft has always been random. Bink bink boop boop congrats you got Finlay!

Also, there was a huge 15-person three-way trade in 2009 between Donald Trump, Teddy Long, and Tiffany. Tiffany dumped a whole bunch of salary in that deal.

The Observer wouldn't be "the observer" if it wasn't low tech, with wacky typos and archaic design. And it's so much better now than it was in the early 90s, when it was still apparently done on typewriter.

Taking what he says with a grain of salt, especially star ratings, makes it much easier to read.

I remember the night HHH was drafted to SmackDown to the horror of Evolution, and the delight of the entire rest of the Raw roster.. only to have Bischoff trade The Dudleys and two others to get him back the next day. Like Heyman said, HHH doesn't work Tuesdays.

Vince really wants to you pay $45 to see it.

Since McMahon refuses to give access to legitimate media, the only 'reporting' we get is what guys like Meltzer can get from their contact list. You have to assume some of what the sources put out there is office politics, but I doubt many of us would be as interested in WWE if there was no 'newz' to prompt discussion. Meltzer appears to have the most contacts, and there's 20 websites happy to glom hits off the newsletters.

Also, too:

Who the HELL is Mel Kiper Jr.??

Let's track this deal.

Raw (Trump) gets
- Mark Henry ecw
- Jack Swagger ecw
- Evan Bourne ecw
- Alicia Fox sd
- Gail Kim sd

Smackdown (Teddy) gets
- Hart Dynasty ecw
- Finlay ecw
- Matt Hardy raw

ECW (Tiffany) gets
- Shelton Benjamin sd
- William Regal raw
- Bella Twins raw
- Goldust raw

Trump showing why Raw is the New York Yankees of the WWE Universe, gutting small market ECW, while Teddy savvily gives up nothing but two girls and an overrated declining prospect in Shelton to restock his midcard, though taking a calculated risk on Matt Hardy and his rumored personal problems.

So Tiffany traded ...
Henry, Swagger, Bourne, Kidd, Natalya, Hart-Smith, Finlay
for
Regal, Shelton, Nikki, Brie, Goldust
and then used the cap space to sign
Sheamus, Yoshi Tatsu, Tyler Reks, Abraham Washington, and the rights to the Abraham Washington Show
and then let Sheamus go to Raw for nothing in a contractual oversight.

ECW went out of business seven months later.

She was banking on Ezekiel Jackson becoming a megastar, obviously. I wonder if her self-loathing over her catastrophic business acumen contributed to her vicious attacks on Drew.
