I feel the blame should go to HHH for that boring until the end convo at the end of Raw. Punk brought up the point that the fans were cheering for him when he joined the company. HHH counters with you have to win over the fans and repeats that phrase for about 10 more minutes.

My understanding was that Punk thought he already had the fans and felt he should have been pushed from the get go...

I don't know. I have a bad feeling that they are going to make Punk the "higher power." Then it will be Punk, Nash and Johnny Acehouser vs HHH.

That was basically my take-away from the segment. Hunter played more to the fans with the rah-rah WWE stuff that doesn't do much for me, but even then, I thought the crowd was more behind Punk. But yes, credit to Triple H for bringing things back around to the actual match.

I pretty sure it wasn't CM Punk they were cheering when he first appeared on WWE Television.

Nah, just when he had his first match.

Try not to be overwhelmed by the love CRZ feels for Punk in this recap.

Just tell me one thing: Why are Trips and Punk on the card, when cleary none of the two is a champion right now? They are killing this great, great PPV gimmick! I hope, they end up doing the dark match before the PPV.

At Night of Champions, all the titles are on the line. HHH's title is COO. If he loses, he quits.

Good point. Unfortunately, unlike every other title, CM Punk can't win COO if he beats Triple H. Which was originally what I thought they were going for: CM Punk as the new COO so he could bring about change, Obama.

If they would just incorporate an intentional dismantling of the existing power structure into his angle. When asked why, Punk can say he just wants his ice cream bars. Until someone makes it happen, heads will roll/go 2 sleep/get got.

He's a catalyst. He must catalyze.

Yeah, Punk-HHH was all over the map and didn't really seem to go anywhere. Much like the angle. The mic cut off was something, but again begs the question of who's in charge. There's no throughline of "higher power" implying that HHH isn't really running things, because the whole text message thing just ended up being Nash. This whole thing is really lacking and it's severely disappointing. It's revealing Punk as kind of a one-trick pony as he really isn't melding reality and kayfabe in a way that is sustainable. Instead it's rehashing the same gripes, and being rebutted by HHH. There seems to be no plan, just send these two guys out there, with Punk as proxy for the smarks and HHH spouting the company line, and I don't know what they're trying to DO. Without question, Punk was crazy over as a face in the aftermath of Chicago. That they put him in face-to-face (literally and figuratively) promos has just left fans who don't follow the stuff pretty much befuddled.

Punk spouts off...
Fans:"Yeah! Non bodybuilders are wrestlers too!"
HHH rebuts...
Fans: "Oh, yeah I forgot about little Rey."

If the point is, we're supposed to make our own decisions on who we support, then I applaud the theory but they've failed in the execution

oh I just realized CM Punk could've done a beautiful end around the "Rey was champ" by bringing up what's big ol' his name winning Tough Enough, and Matt Cross going out second.
