| #1 Posted on 8.5.03 1321.15 | WWE seems pretty determined to start the brand only roster pay-per-views starting in June with a PPV for the RAW brand. However, even if it is a RAW only ppv, why not import Smackdown performers on one or two matches to go against RAW performers. I mean it could benefit if the wrestlers people want to pay to see are on Smackdown but won't be on a RAW ppv. Plus you could still get some good money out of the "cross-promotion" matches or have competition between the two brands over the IC title.
I mean technically, the Rebellion UK ppv last year was Smackdown! only, but Booker T was there to represent the RAW brand and wrestle Matt Hardy. So why not do a similar gimmick to that?

Let me see if I understand this. The Red Sox #2 starter is now the closer on days he doesn't start? And it's only May? And I thought working on the doctorate would have been the thing to cause full blown alcoholism. | sergeial

Handle it the same way they handle the house show promos - Put a little disclaimer "Paid for by Raw" on the screen, and we pretend that Raw is paying for an ad in Smackdown's timeslot, just like Snickers Crunchers does.
Oh, and [kayfabe] they're not in a battle for survival. They're divisions of the same company that were set against each other by a common boss, based on the theory that the competition would make them each sharper than they would have been otherwise, and thus make more money for the parent company. That's why they don't compete in ways that would actually cut into each others bottom line, like putting a show on on the same night. It's also why they co-operate in limited ways, like having mixed PPVs. The GMs are in a battle to prove themselves better than each other to their common boss, and avoid being replaced.

Because doing so would defeat the purpose of a RAW only ppv.

| #5 Posted on 8.5.03 1731.52 | If they are going to keep the split, they need to go all the way. That means brand specific PPV's. I've always supported this, as it will allow each brand two months to build to their own PPV, which should allow more time to properly tell a story and build to the PPV. There is no reason in this amount of time that they can't set enough storylines for 8 matches. Each roster is probably the size of a WWE roster or WCW roster back in the 90's (somebody can correct me if I'm wrong about that), so it's not like there is not enough people to run a brand specific PPV. Now it's going to be up to the writers, bookers, and the wrestlers themselves to get over (at least those who are not over), because they should get the time. If they can't, then they should get some writers/bookers/etc. who can.
If they don't want to do this full out, then they should just recombine the rosters, and probably cut a good 40% of the talent. Of course, the 40% they may cut and the 40% I want to see cut may vary, so I would prefer the split to work.
Having a split that works to the same common PPV is silly, and leaves too many of the respective rosters with nothing to do.

It will probably still hype the PPV anyways. It would have to....

Maybe they'll put on Velocity instead? Pre-PPV Heat is basically hype w/ 1 throw-away match anyway, so just run Velocity w/ a throw-away match to get the crowd hot (i.e. cruiser match)

I've heard that the latest lame house show tour nickname is `WWE Unleashed', so perhaps that's what Scotty had it confused with.
