PAS: Helmsley's hair looked really nice tonight, he must have a new conditioner.
TKG: Jericho vs. Batista work really nicely with each other. Really liked Batista's side suplex and liked the match finish. They tease Batista vs. Helmsley dissension pre match. I watched Impact this weekend where AMW brawled with Jarrett and the other heels. AMW have really solid strikes but every time they had to face Jarrett they pulled their punches about a foot from Jarret's face. They know who's paying the bills. I don't want to see the Batista vs. Helmsley match at all. No desire to see Batista throwing Ed Leslie style clotheslines.
PAS: I really like the finish, although I think they are overdoing the Jericho gets KO'ed by a clothesline thing. Maybe they are trying to explain his really shitty recent mike work by claiming post concussion syndrome.
TKG: Damn, that was a great DDT. Now that Hashimoto is out Lita has the narstiest DDT in the business. I mean that was great. Odd booking having her request an against the odds three way with two heels but it continues with the Lita as redneck badass gimmick that I'm really digging. Does Monty Brown have a big titted ex-wife for Lita to dyke out with and then start beating?
PAS: BIG VIS
TKG: Ok lil six man with Conway looking great and not enough Regal.
PAS: Six man was perfectly fine, but I don't know about trying to book Shelton Benjamin as New Jack. I really don't want to hear the WWE muzak version of Natural Born Killaz.
TKG: Wow thank you for that bait and switch. I've been critical of Edge for ages but he's a lot better as heel. I was expecting your usual spotfestish angle blowing off TV cage match (ie. Angle/Benoit, Jericho/Christian, Eddie/JBL, etc.). i don't really dig those matches as I like my cage matches brawls with blood. And thats what Edge and Benoit gave me. No top of cage missile drop kick, no German from top of cage. Really a nice brawl with Benoit, blading and reblading and lots of nice traditional nasty looking cage bumps. but none of the WWE cage spots. Was the crowd chanting UFC ? Cause they kept on fucking with the crowd noise. Good well executed cage finish that didn't feel like it was actual feud blow off.
PAS: This might be Free TV match of the year, I am shocked how much I am enjoying Edge lately, as he is a guy I have been indifferent too for years. Really had the violence that good cage matches need, rather then just doing scramble cage shit like the WWE often does. I really dug the finish, although it is an odd way for a face to win a cage match, as it feels like a way Flair would keep his belt against Hawk at a Norfolk Bash card.
WHAT DIDN'T WORK:
TKG: Chris Benoit is booking this show and he didn't book himself a match with Regal. No "one night only" Malenko vs. Steve Keirn U-Style rules. No Mike Graham vs. Finlay and Meng. BAH!
TKG: Who is Muhamad Hassan going to feud with on RAW. What face is going to work him? Helmsley wont let any non Evolution heel mean anything, what the fuck are they going to do with him. They need to do the Hirohito Jr deal and switch this angle over to Smackdown. Hassan and Davari really need to be moved to Smackdown to feud with Cena. Cena vs. the Sand Ni**as With Attitude could actually be a money angle. Anyone know what Arabian Prince is up to?
TKG: For a God awful match Maven vs. Shnitskey wan't as funny as Raven vs. Mero from Impact. To be fair Shnitsky probably weighs less than Raven.
PAS: According the WON Snitsky has been wrestling seven years. Maven has been in the WWE for almost four and this looked worse then most indy wrestling class debut matches. Of course Raven has been around since the 1980's and Badd since the early 90's and that looked like backyard wrestling if it was something performed by fat middle aged men having midlife crises, rather then 15 year old Oxy addicts.
While I certainly would say that wrestling wasn't as big in 1997 as it got post-WM14, the wrestling boom really began in 1996 with the nWo and Nitro's growth, and it continued to grow in 1997 with the Rodman tag match and Nitro's live show (RAW was still...
