What was up with the main event? Did Hurricane not kick out in time? Was someone else supposed to come in to save him? Or did Earl Hebner just realize that they were 10 minutes over (like normal) and just shut the whole thing down?
The following post expresses the opinions of a raving Jerichoholic. He is biased, opinionated and bitter. You have been warned.
I think something was supposed to happen, maybe Nash making the save, and then Hurricane's shoulder was up. Oh, well. It could have been played off of by Tripps if he were to pick up Hurricane and Pedigree him again, ala The Rock vs. Kurt Angle at NWO 2001. Then again, that was Hebner's fault, too.

I just assumed it was part of the whole "Hunter intimidates the refs" story.

Unabashed HHH mark: because even megalomaniacs need love.
There had to be someone supposed to save Hurricane....why the hell would they have Hurricane kick out of Jesus Helmsey's finisher? But then JR called it as "he got the shoulder up!" when he didn't....but then JR was reaching record levels of senility all night (that Micheals, he's....he's....he's a pyromaniac)

Oh great, now Earl is going to get a 'You Screwed Shane' chant every time he goes to South Carolina.
Over 1300 posts and still never a Wiener of the Day!
In the issues of December 16th, 2000 to November 10th, 2001, we may have given the impression that George W. Bush had been legally and duly elected president of the United States. We now understand that this may have been incorrect, and that the election result is still too close to call. The Economist apologizes for any inconvenience. --- The Economist, 11/17/01
I really can't see the match ending any different than it did. As soon as the match started, I told my buddies that it was going to end with Hurricane taking a pedigree from HHH. I think Earl was supposed to count 1,2,3 after the pedigree, and he screwed up and thought that there was supposed to be a save on Hurricane, so he held up on the third tap.

My buddy and I were in row 9 at the San Diego Sports Arena. We sure as hell didn't know what happened at the end of that match... one thing that we did notice though- Nash's "hot tag" was met with utter silence! I didn't believe all the internet reports about the crowd's reaction for Nash until now.... I mean, he gets decent pops when he comes out to his music- but when he tagged into the main event, no one gave a shit. It was sad... I am an Outsiders fan, and that was just sad...
I was there....When Chris Jericho beat Austin and Rock in the same night to become the first ever Undisputed Champion! (And for the incredible Eddie/ Edge "no DQ"!!!)
WWE has a HUGE roster and half the guys have never even been on Smackdown or RAW in months. Young guys who can tear the ring apart, charismatc guys who might be the breakout star if given the chance. So why is WWE digging up its past?
